If we're talking about Japanese peace lilies, this guy would certainly agree.

Just want to talk in a very positive manner, giving off good vibes. We're just here to use the bathroom, and then we're just going to leave. I hope that's OK.

She looks perfectly fine. You have image issues.

I keep plants. Not just a couple on a window sill, but PLANTS!!! Many varieties, in every room, hanging from the ceiling, on every available window sill, table, floor space, on my desk, in the bathroom (my beautiful African violets - they like steam) and I have two of those small greenhouse things that are attached to the outside of windows. I spend a lot of time caring for all these plants, but it's worth every minute, very therapeutic, very calming, and as my Grandmother would have said, it keeps me out of saloons - sometimes. The plants also raise the humidity level during the winter months, which is an added bonus for my trouble.

Friends call my place the 'conservatory' for obvious reasons. People who come here for the first time are awed by my indoor forest - it looks so farking cool and I am rather proud of my efforts. No, I don't grow pot, but I would if I could without those pesky grow lights and the possibility of being sent to jail.

I don't know if plants are saving my life, but they do have a positive effect on me.

I also keep a 1 1/2 acre kitchen garden, but that's another cool story, bro.

Actually it was.

Jamieboy,

I do the same thing. One nice thing about being the boss is nobody says anything about what you do in your office. I have about 100 plants in my office alone. I find I smell the difference the second I walk in my office.

The air smells "real".

That's one hell of a big kitchen.

/Grow lights FTW

TFA's cited study is the same damn study they do at least once a decade. They just change which plants they recommend.

Last time around, they claimed spider plants were the best, but "purple waffle plant" is much funnier.

I need to watch that again. My mom died on 10/21; my office sent a giant peace lily, that's at home, and another one that was sent is now in my office, peeking out from behind my monitors.

I looked it up, and they should be on this list.

Yup; the last paragraph says it all,
Prof Kays said: "bullshiat bullshiat bullshiat, tremendous positive impact on the ornamental plant industry by increasing customer demand and sales."

You mean I'm going to get some guy coming over to my desk, offering me a big green one for my health?

/bring it on - I love the big ones...

Did anyone else notice there are TWO purple plants on here? One of which is easily the funniest name for a planet, ever: Purple Waffle. That sounds like a Laffy Taffy flavor. I must possess one.

I had a potplant (Boston Fern) but it crapped leaves everywhere. Can anyone suggest a cleaner plant?

goofoffgoose 2009-11-07 12:25:29 AM
Jamieboy: That sounds incredibly cool, and how I'd like my place to look. Just had to throw out the remnants of the "mothership" spider plant, the one from which all smaller ones have sprung, which itself came from a cutting my now 32 yr old sister brought home in 4th grade! Bits of it kept dying, I'd cut off the dead bits, new green bits would peek through, then they too would die til there was nothing left. I have a small spider plant on my desk, an offspring of the mothership. It's a little bit fragile, so I hope this isn't the end of the mothership line!

/I know, I know
//even cooler story
