Dick Cheney's daughter is a lesbian.
Alan Keyes's daughter is a lesbian.
Sonny Bono's daughter was a lesbian, then she got a sex change.
Ronald Reagan's son is a liberal.
Fred Phelps has a gay son.
I think Barry Goldwater had a gay son, or a gay nephew.

Not to mention the countless conservative politicians who have been embroiled in their gay sex scandals.

Even if a gay person isn't married, they are still gay.

In less than a month I've seen these polls claim that we have next to no "self-described republicans", and over 50% of the population is "democrat" yet apparently liberals are also a dying breed and conservatism is on the rise.

In other news, Sea levels are on the rise, and we may be facing a water-free planet by 2020.

I gay married an aborted fetus so Obama wouldn't lock me into a re-education center. I was skeptical at first, but we've been very happy together.

These are not contradictory facts. What's going on is that "conservative" and Republican are becoming completely synonymous (hence why it's going from 30 to 35% or whatever), and "moderate" and "liberal" are almost entirely meaning Democratic. There are virtually no more moderate Republicans, whereas wide swathes of Democrats are moderate. They're cornering themselves into 35-40% of the country and shutting out the large moderate part of the country that finds themselves with nowhere else to turn but to the reasonable-by-comparison Democrats. This is what happens when you have a small tent.

Preemptive note: this is ideologies, not parties. The Democrats are so right-center these days it's pretty easy to consider yourself a Democrat and call yourself a conservative.

Yeah, that too. I keep getting the feeling that "Conservatives" think that once gay marriage is banned all the gays will go away.

It won't, we'll still be here and we'll still want to be treated like people.

I don't agree. I think "conservatives" think gays will still be around as an underclass, a group of second-class citizens that they can discriminate against and feel superior to. It's surprising how comfortable many "conservatives" are with that state of affairs.

Gay rights: it's the civil rights battle that conservatives are going to WIN!!!

Has there been *any* civil rights battle that conservatives have won in the long run? Do they really think gay marriage isn't going to be more widespread than it is today in 10 or 20 years?

/it's a rising tide. all they can do is slow it down.

Agreed. But then, they'll be dead, and they won't have to deal with the horrors of CHANGE in their lifetime.

Sorry. Still bitter about Maine (and California before that).

I think its more in the vein of Iran and SOAP, "There ain't no Homos in Texas" type shiat. Not that they enjoy oppressing people, that interferes with their Christian image of themselves.

No, I embrace civil rights and responsible politics. If that makes me part of a minority so be it.

It's true. Liberals are going extinct because we heterosexual liberals are all being converted to the gay by the nefarious advocates of the homosexual agenda. I can't tell you how many times I've left wingnut re-education camp planning meetings with my fellow libs wanting to suck cawk.

If stereotypes have taught me anything it's that most conservatives are bizarrely religious trailer-trash rednecks with 14 children because they can't figure out condoms.

And those are the positive stereotypes.

I was standing by my window
One cold December day
When I saw the hearse come rolling
For to carry my brother away

Will the circle be unbroken
Bye and bye, Lord, bye and bye
There's a better home a-waiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky

Lord I told the undertaker
Undertaker please drive slow
For this body you are taking
Lord I hate to see him go

Will the circle be unbroken
Bye and bye, Lord, bye and bye
There's a better home a-waiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky

I followed close behind him
Tried to hold up and be brave
But I could not hide my sorrow
When they laid him in the grave

Will the circle be unbroken
Bye and bye, Lord, bye and bye
There's a better home a-waiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky

I went home, my home was empty
Now my brother he has gone
All my family were sitting crying
What a home so sad and alone

Will the circle be unbroken
Bye and bye, Lord, bye and bye
There's a better home a-waiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky

You guys don't understand. You've already lost. The current generation doesn't care.

As a married, heterosexual liberal with two kids I'm really getting a kick out of this headline.

I really don't care about the wharrgarbling or anything else. If you oppose gay marriage, you're a bigot. It would be nice if you stopped being a bigot in the future, but eventually you and others like you will die of old age, and more rational attitudes on the subject will prevail.

End of discussion.

I can't wait until I'm an old man listening to "conservative" candidates talk about how they ALWAYS favored equal rights for gays, just like they were pioneers in women's suffrage and abolition.
