I never, ever understood why anyone would pay to hear Bruce Springsteen sing, let alone give him a record deal. Ugh.

I've never understood the appeal either. I find him rather annoying.

The Boss is splendiferous. Absolutely awesome. That said, I still laughed my ass off at the headline, and especially when I heard his voice saying it, like the above Farker said.

Hehe. Actually, Stiller's "Tony Robbins" bit probably was the funniest damn thing I saw on that show.

And yes, Ben Stiller did a very funny job making fun of him. "Counting with Bruce Springsteen" kicks ass.

Typical Bruce Song:

I grew up poor in a small town,
High School was OK, I didn't do well,
I got same job as my dad in a mill/mine/factory,
My life sucks, just like everyone else's here.
Someone else is to blame, so I can't chage anything.

Mix in occasional reference to being in Army or jail.

Bingo, you have 2/3 of Bruce's catalog.

Oh Jesus CHRIST this idiocy is annoying.

Look, the old "you don't like X, therefore you must like (insert shiatty music here)" response is farking STUPID. It has always been stupid. It will always BE stupid.

"Oh, you don't like my favorite show? Let me guess, huge fan of Oprah and Jay Leno?"

It's dumb. Not quite as dumb as "let's see you do better," but pretty damn close.

I like Bruce to a degree. He's better when I've got three beers in me. Then I can either tear up or rawk out.
I don't understand though why Neil Young gets tons of music snob cred while Springsteen doesn't.

The Boss is part of what made being a teenager in the mid 1970s bearable. That, Bob Seeger and cheap '60s Muscle Cars. I saw him live a couple of times and the shows were great. I can see how it might be hard to appreciate Bruce if you grew up at a different time.

/Sophie Masloff, Former Mayor of Pittsburgh, referred to him as Bruce Bedspring. Still makes me laugh

Springsteen is an amazing songwriter and performer, who penned some of the most well-know, well-loved and iconic songs of our times. In addition to being a huge rock star, he has always stayed down to earth and stood up for what he believes in.

Future generations will consider him a poet; I really think so.

I think the problem is that once someone is a multi-millionaire the 'aw shucks' blue-collar schitck -- which may have been sincere at one time-- doesn't seem to go over as well.

I have to give him some credit for having David Sancious in his band way back when. Now that guy has some talent (look him up). "Forest of Feelings" is one of the best works of all musical time.

I've lived all over the country. I never heard his songs on the radio until I moved to New Jersey, where they played him at least 2 or 3 times an hour. And I nearly got my ass kicked by my coworkers when I mentioned how annoying his music was. Luckily I moved out of Jersey soon afterward, and I haven't heard his shiatty music since. Therefore, I believe almost all of Springsteen's record sales are to New Jersey residents.

I've seen him in concert - i wasn't a huge fan or anything, but thought i'd take advantage of him and the E Street Band coming through. He's a model performer - played for 2 and a half hours without break, music from all through his catalogue.

I haven't the foggiest why you guys are biatching about his voice, it was strong and clear and his playing was fantastic, better than what i've heard on his records IMO.

Anyway, ladies, I would say this is one of the hottest performances i've ever seen *wipes sweat off brow. I beg you to differ!

Parts of this thread remind me of the kid who told me he thought Billie Holliday sucked, because she "couldn't sing." Especially when compared to "someone (he) like(d)...Neil Diamond."

Man-in-the-Moon sized facepalm.
