Imagine being an A's fan. It's like we're the Yankee's farm system.

Billy Burr is funny as hell.

Yikes.

This is just the most obvious unoriginal stuff... same jokes farkers were making the second they won. Also too much Jimmy Fallon commentary and self-amused laughter.

skinink 2009-11-05 06:31:13 PM

Meh. They wouldn't be the Yankees if they didn't win it every so often. I don't mind so much that A-Rod won a WS, but that now this will make Hank Steinbrenner become even more insufferable. And that the traitor Johnny Damon has won a WS with the enemy.

If they ever have a Red Sox 2004 team reunion in the future I'd rather have Manny show up than to have Damon there.

The good news for baseball is that everyone will want to see the Yankees when they come to town.

Did he use the line about being born on third base? Or about how it's like rooting for the hous in blackjack?

Because those are wicked witty.

Also, who are Opie, Anthony and Bill Burr?

Meh, this is how haters deal with the frustration. No Yankee fan would be serious if they ever claimed this was a Cinderella team. It's just a rant, and some of it was pretty funny. Especially the part about the buzzards in Pittsburgh.

Think of it this way. I've lived in Seattle for 10 years now. I grew up rooting for the Yankees in upstate NY. You know what the biggest achievement in Mariners history is (according to most fans and local media)? The 1995 ALDS win over the Yankees. You might think the 116 win season with an ALDS victory over the Indians might be, but that season is all but forgotten. I know because I always get "remember back in 95 when we kicked your asses?" anytime I wear my Yankee hat.

So all Mariner fans wax nostalgic over a first round playoff series win. That's it. I'm not being snarky or a jerk here either, but that has got to be frustrating as hell for that to be the high point of a lifelong Mariners fans' existence.

Just sayin' I understand where the hate comes from.

Hey Einstein, why would you expect Mariners fans to bring up a series vs. Cleveland when you have a Yankee hat on?

Downtownkid wins.

Yankees fans are typically very obnoxious. As long as they're from New York, I'm generally cool with them. I met a girl who was a Yankees, Steelers, Lakers fan. I told her she was a poser. She said it was because that's who her dad liked. I wanted to tell her that her dad's a wank too.

Bill Frist I can't really explain why I think it's funny. I hate Dane Cook, and Carlos Mencia, and every other d-bag you mentioned. I like how bitter this guy is. I think bitterness is funny.

Oh, no! Somebody's not respecting our team's hard fought World Series victory just because we bought two aces and a slugger in the offseason, to pile on the rest of the stars we've bought every year for the last decade. Don't they know what a gritty, fun-loving bunch the 2009 Yankees were? Boo-hoo!

/please. Suck it up. I didn't even listen to this guy's comedy skit, but anyone who cheers for a team that just buys talent the way the Yanks do has to be able to take it when they're criticised for it.

Why don't you tell us whom you think is funny so that we may reciprocate the overly dickish and pretentious criticism?

"Oh...you think [insert comedian here] is funny? How very juvenile and pedestrian of you, hurrrr."

I just implied it was wasn't very funny...it was pedestrian comedy. I guess it's funny to someone who hates the the Yankees, but that kind of makes conditional. Good comedy should be funny to everyone. For example, the Onion Article (new window) that announced the Yankees signed everyone in the majors was funny. This wasn't.

You know what, Burr nailed it. The Yankees aren't "scrappy" or lovable unless you're a Yankee fan.

You know what else? I don't give two shiats. The goal is to win a championship, not win friends.

Believe me, I care far more about comedy than I care about baseball. This is an insult to my comedic senses is all. Plenty of funny people have made fun of the Yankees.

Meh, that forces me to like make a best of list with all the greats. How about I list more recent stuff I think is great: The Onion's video segments, Arrested Development, Mr. Show (a bit older, but best written sketch show ever probably)... I must admit I enjoy a lot of Zach Galafinakis's stuff, the Stella dudes... there is five.

pnkgtr: I think I could put a pretty good team together for $220,000,000.

See now, that's what I don't get. How does baseball afford these obscene salaries? It's not like baseball pulls in the revenue like it used to -- hell, baseball has pretty much turned into a 2nd class sport.

And besides, at least with football I can somewhat justify those gross salaries -- what with football players pretty much destroying their bodies by age 35 and then lacking an income thereafter. They really need a large income for the short stint that they're actually active. But baseball? Why? You barely need to be in shape to play baseball.

/just don't get it.
//paying hockey players well makes sense too
