That's one of my favorite places. If you haven't checked it out do so.

Preferably in the off season, wake up really early and go for a hike in one of burbling sulfur pit and geyser landscapes so you get the full "I'm the only person on Mars except for those hoards of freaking space Bisonoids." Shrooms would only be redundant.

This! I did my undergrad thesis on biosilicification in Yellowstone hot springs. One of the researchers who goes every year had a story of a bison (they called him Gunther) who would drink nonchalantly from the hot springs. In this particular area, they were boiling (just under 100 degrees C). Oh yeah, and the pH was around 2.5 (battery acid, anyone?). Crazy bison!

Seriously, I went a couple weekends ago and it was awesome. We had a 2 hour hike with no one else around. It was better than the summer.
