Now I'm wondering: if the guy heard your version, would he be able to understand it, or would it sound like gibberish to him?

I'm really kind of bewildered how someone can wind up talking like that. Local accents or slang is one thing, but we're talking a completely different syntax. I find it oddly fascinating.
