(Daily Mail) Scientists baffled by strange condition that's making bears lose all their fur, and SWEET ERUCTATING CTHULHU ON A PIMPED-OUT POGO STICK -- WTF???
I simultaneously feel bad for those bears for losing their fur, creeped out by how much bald bears look like giant rats, and scared as fark by their enormous claws.
I'd like to think that the vets would have figured that one out, but then again, it is accompanied by "nasty rashes and inflammations on their skin," so you may well be right. Additionally, I'm not so sure the Daily Mail did such a great job reporting this one, as they start off by saying it only effects one bear, but then say that it effects all of the female bears. They also neglected to mention the name of the zoo, but posted 4 pictures of the bears.
This (new window) article from 2002 shows that a similar event occurred in Florida, where they found it to be an unusual strain of mange.
According to The Sun, this happened at Leipzig Zoo. Considering that The Sun ran the article 4 hours earlier than the Daily Fail, I'm guessing I found their source.
/After re-checking the Daily Mail article, I did see that they mentioned that it occurred at "a zoo in Leipzig." //Still a poorly written article.
Great googley moogely! looks like what my poor dog has. She's a keeshond, and has lost her fluffy tail a while ago and while she has some hair she's going bald in patches. Looks horrendous, but not as bad as those poor bears.
Came for the pic of Cthulhu on a pogo stick, leaving disappointed.
BONUS FUN FACT: I fully expected "Cthulhu" to get flagged by the automatic spellcheck that I keep on at all times. It was recognized as a proper spelling.

Not just any pogo stick -- it has to be a pimped-out pogo stick.
