It wouldnt be a bad state if the northern part sort of broke off and sank.

Descartes: Congrats to the Republicanscountry ... youvoters did good tonight, but don't think this is a referendum on Obama because it isn't.

It is a referendum on the failed policies at the State level that Obama is doubling down on at the national level.

Funny, that no one complained that Corzine was a Wall Street exec and was worth $300M. I guess it was okay that he got that pay because he was a democrat.

You think so? I'm not so sure. He's doing a fantastic job in Newark, and I think he wants to do more there. He turned down a position with the Obama administration to continue his Mayoral term, I'm pretty sure he's there for the long haul.

Well that's a shame. Christie is going to sell off the parts of Jersey to his which his buddines at private companies can profit from, like the Turnpike and neglect the parts of NJ which create loss, like education, health care and medical research.

I, for one, applaud this headline.

Even though I don't like the story underneath it.

You know, they start out as reformist Republicans. Then you give 'em a little power, they develop some relationships with RNC big shots, pretty soon you have a Tim Pawlenty on your hands. Really gotta stop electing these Republican governors, moderates.

tomWright 2009-11-03 10:49:42 PM
Giltric: I can't believe the Democrat lost to a fat guy without a plan.

Sometimes the demon you know is so bad the demon you don't is worth the chance. Remember that Corzine is a Wall Street insider and part of that whole cohort of criminals that led up to the financial crisis.

But remember, all the votes are not in. Depending on how close the first final tally is, the absentee and cadaver-American vote will be important. Especially in Union/Hudson/Essex counties where you can be a zombie voter for decades before anyone notices.

/Voted for Kaplan

Oh yeah? Obama and the Dems thought it was so deny it all you want, the major Dem players already declared it so. All you libs stock up on butt hurt salve. Get enough to see you through 2010 and 2012. Maybe get the industrial size at Costco or Sams.

FredaDeStilleto [TotalFark] 2009-11-03 10:51:04 PM
I live in an area that is heavily Democrat, yet the Republican backed candidates won by a fairly wide margin. We had this Dem backlash, not because of any dissatisfaction with government on the Fed level, but because of the corruption that has enveloped the party at the local level.

I think people are beginning to vote for (or against) an individual rather than a candidate with a particular party affiliation.

skinink 2009-11-03 10:51:06 PM
Doesn't mean much that a Republican won in a heavy Democrat state. In recent Massachusetts history Republican Governors have ran the state for more years than a Democrat Governor. And the way Deval Patrick has ran the state (or hasn't run it), I would vote against him either in the primaries, or the General Election if he makes it that far. I really can't name one important thing he's done while in office. But I can tell you about all the money he spent on curtains and expensive state vehicles...

tortilla burger 2009-11-03 10:51:10 PM
Despite all the idiotic shenanigans the GOP likes to pull, I think I prefer Republican governance at the small level. If you can balance a reasonable budget, which most Dems can't, I almost don't care what else goes on.

It's when you get to the national level where Republicans fail so miserably.

Will Christie even make it four years without keeling over from morbid obesity? Seriously, the guy probably sweats when he eats.

The NJ Stonewall Democrats sent me a mailer that said "Don't grumble about what the Democrats AREN'T doing for our community."

That's the kind of attitude that gets you a Republican governor.

Luckily the Democratic legislature will make it very hard for Christie to push his agenda.

Hence the old saying that politicians are like diapers. They should be changed often and for the same reason. Thats both Pubs and Dems

Citation

Cozine wanted to sell the Tpk last year but changed his mind when the citizenry armed with flying pigs appeared outside the statehouse.

There was a NYT article last week where Corzine was quoted as ressurecting that plan...some people are saying thats what made them vote for Christie today.
