I like The Cure. But that video wasn't freaky at all. Now, Bauhaus was freaky:

Video for "Mask". (new window)

I remember my brother buying that poster for like $25 (thems 1990 dollars) cause it was so rare or an import or something. It was the envy of all our Cure loving friends.

Apparently subby hasn't seen many Cure videos.....Boys Don't Cry is relatively tame compared to quite a few other Cure videos...subby should get out more. The Cure are a quintessential 80's & 90's band...that is all.

Really? Every art-chick I knew in high school (late 80s) had that thing on their wall.

Clever video, though it was done years later. Smith still looked pretty normal when they originally recorded the song, unlike his more familiar silhouette in the video.

I was always partial to "High" for freaky Cure videos.

When I was in high school, I tried to convince my mother to let me redecorate my room based on that poster and another poster of Robert Smith which was black and white with red lips.

I had the biggest fangirl crush on Robert Smith. We had to create a circle of hell in sophomore English class when we read Dante. Mine was a music hell, with my guide, Bono, and the Beatrice figure was Robert Smith.

Yep, that video was done around "The Head on the Door" period when Robert re-recorded the lyrics to 'Boys Don't Cry'. As a nice touch though, they got original bassist Michael Dempsey back for that video, even though he left after the first record. Simon Gallup, who replaced him, remains a criminally under-appreciated bass player.

Oh, and second the 'Charlotte Sometimes' video. Mesmerizing.
