I like The Cure. But that video wasn't freaky at all. Now, Bauhaus was freaky:

I remember my brother buying that poster for like $25 (thems 1990 dollars) cause it was so rare or an import or something. It was the envy of all our Cure loving friends.

Apparently someone's never seent he video for In Between Days

bodhi1971 2009-11-04 09:55:53 AM
Apparently subby hasn't seen many Cure videos.....Boys Don't Cry is relatively tame compared to quite a few other Cure videos...subby should get out more. The Cure are a quintessential 80's & 90's band...that is all.

Really? Every art-chick I knew in high school (late 80s) had that thing on their wall.

Clever video, though it was done years later. Smith still looked pretty normal when they originally recorded the song, unlike his more familiar silhouette in the video.

I'm confused ... Love this video but it isn't freaky at all and nowhere the freakiest of anything.

I was always partial to "High" for freaky Cure videos.

When I was in high school, I tried to convince my mother to let me redecorate my room based on that poster and another poster of Robert Smith which was black and white with red lips.

I had the biggest fangirl crush on Robert Smith. We had to create a circle of hell in sophomore English class when we read Dante. Mine was a music hell, with my guide, Bono, and the Beatrice figure was Robert Smith.

peter21 2009-11-04 11:34:47 AM
Yep, that video was done around "The Head on the Door" period when Robert re-recorded the lyrics to 'Boys Don't Cry'. As a nice touch though, they got original bassist Michael Dempsey back for that video, even though he left after the first record. Simon Gallup, who replaced him, remains a criminally under-appreciated bass player.

Oh, and second the 'Charlotte Sometimes' video. Mesmerizing.

If subby thinks that qualifies as a 'freaky' video, I am guessing he has never seen a Throbbing Gristle video.

This was the first Cure video I had ever seen; my uncle used to tape videos on MTV and watch them when he babysat my brother and I. This freaked me out the first time I saw it, when I was about four or five in '83 or '84.
And yes, I own the Cure Video collection and their live DVDs. Notice I didn't say it was the "freakiest" Cure video or otherwise; it's just a bizarre little video that I thought we'd all enjoy.

The Cure have made quit a few goofyvideos, and you still get people saying they are humorless. My favorite of their goofy videos (pops)

Ant 2009-11-04 03:40:53 PM
Did they ever make videos for One Hundred Years or Pornography? Anything off of the Faith album?

It Don't Move Me (new window)

Nothing to Worry About (new window)

Peter Bjorn and John are releasing some weird videos lately

It Don't Move Me has a kid dancing like MJ and an odd man present. It's creepy actually.

Nothing to Worry About contains an allstar pompadour from the Harajuku area.
