I read his story yesterday and cracked up. I particularly like the part where he tries to deposit the check.

good for him. I look forward to seeing him fight in the UFC some more.

Now, that's dedication.

Barry said he didn't ask anyone for money including his mother:

"I could ask someone but then at the same time, how hard are you going to work for something if everytime you get in trouble somebody catches you? I did something to put myself in this position I have to work my way out of it."

And character. Good for you, Pat.

I really dont care too much for UFC.. but I have to say.. winning couldnt have happened to a nicer guy. Glad it happened for him. I'm sure he's happy and relieved. Good for him.

Don't watch UFC much - certainly never see it "live" on PPV or whatever but this dude is now officially my new favorite.

I love the bit about "take your time, my truck probably won't start anyway". I wonder if they kept him standing there for an hour, or offered him a seat on the off chance that the 100 large was actually real...

He should get another bank. Who the fark has to wait an hour to deposit money in their own account? 120K or not, that was complete bullshiat. That's the same attitude that will nickel and dime him back onto the fringe of homelessness.

GavinTheAlmighty 2009-11-04 08:35:58 AM
"I go to the bank, I'm sweaty, I've got the black eye, I haven't shaven in two days, I'm strung out because I haven't slept, I have green circles under my eyes so I'm like 'Can I have a deposit slip mam?'. She gives it to me, I fill it out hand it to her. She looks at the deposit slip, then the check, then looks at me and says 'Excuse me I'll be right back.' Then a manager comes out, a guy in a suit and says 'What seems to be the problem?' I was like 'Well I have a black eye, that's the only problem I know this looks really ridiculous.' So he asks me for my ID, I hand him my license an he's like 'Your license says Pat Barry, but this check was written to Patrick Barry.' So I decided to be funny and tell him Pat Barry is in my trunk right now. He didnt laugh."

Pat Barry is a class act and one of the nicest guys in the sport. He may never fight for the title but I wish him every success otherwise.

Good for him...Barry seemed like a good dude in his Boobies fight interview, real modest and didn't seem like a jerk. Hopefully he sticks around, he makes fights interesting.

Probably shouldn't have missed weight...can't really blame anyone but himself.

when you put the word "first" in front of it. "post" is fine by itself.

Well, considering his truck was shot and he was about to evicted, he probably asked for some cash back from the check. That's why they need the ID and manager's approval.

Rumble only has one person to be pissed at, and that's himself. 6 pounds over the WW limit? That's pretty ridiculous. He's known about this fight for a while, and I'm not buying the knee injury excuse. There are other ways to work your cardio, like swimming or hand bikes, that don't rely on knee pressure. It's a fairly clear indicator that he may not belong at WW.

Crazy story, but honestly I think the guy said some great things. How he explained, I got myself into this and im gonna get myself out of it, its a good message. Nice story really. And the whole going to deposit the check story was pretty hilarious. I mean how often does a guy essentially looking like a hobo, deposit a $120k check.
