You know, I typically vote mostly (R) but would describe myself as fiscally more conservative, and socially moderate, heck maybe even leaning slightly left.

The R's would do well not to crow too much about any wins. Just point out that they're glad they won, that it shows some of what they're selling is resonating with a segment of the voters, and that they still have a message to deliver in Washington.

Instead they'll go on and on about how one decent win and two foregone conclusions mean that the D's are on the way out and they can stand by and watch it happen.

/wishes there was a middle-ish third option.

Cyberluddite [TotalFark] 2009-11-03 08:27:32 PM
Gee, a guy who had trailed in the polls by 20 points actually did lose? Well, you and your Republican buddies probably ought to not start sucking each other's dicks quite yet, Submittard.

Oh, wait, I forgot who I was talking about there for a minute--too late!

Dem's too. A little humility goes a long way.

Weaver95 [TotalFark] 2009-11-03 08:30:51 PM
huh? one race doesn't mean much. get back to me after the 2010 midterm elections and we'll have some idea on how the next presidential election cycle is gonna go.

Maybe the stupidest farking green I have ever seen. And says a lot considering some of the modmin work around this place.

GAT_00 [TotalFark] 2009-11-03 08:31:05 PM
Wow, you people are spinning this hard. A conservative state voted for a Repub? Stop the farking presses!

Obama's from Virginia now? What the hell happened to Kenya?

Racht [TotalFark] 2009-11-03 08:31:10 PM
Just to preempt the inevitable teabaggers:

Barack Obama's approval rating among Virginia voters stands at 51 percent (just under the 52.6 percent of the vote he received in the state last November) and 57 percent in New Jersey (almost exactly the same as the 57.1 percent of the vote he earned in that state last November).

Yeah, definitely a referendum.

m2313 2009-11-03 08:31:30 PM
Is it sad that I thought Obama just got assassinated from the headline?

RockIsDead 2009-11-03 08:31:35 PM
Obama's already a quarter through his Presidency.

Are you better off?

Patience?

What are you waiting for?

Many times, they go registration after they go green on Fark. It's like they know or something...

CaesarSneezy 2009-11-03 08:32:22 PM
The county comptroller's also a Republican! Take that, Obama!

Seriously, was Obama running for VA Governor or something?

Ya. Not so much. (new window)

Ima10urin8: Wow his own backyard shiat all over him.

Virginia is Chicago's backyard?!?

Oh, you mean because he's currently in Washington. Well, seeing as how D.C. itself--which if Virginia is the "backyard," must be the President's "household"--hasn't voted to elect a Republican in, well, ever, can you explain the relevance?

WFern 2009-11-03 08:33:11 PM
1. There's a thread on this same page detailing that Obama has higher national approval ratings now than he did when he got elected.

2. It's Virginia.

I think the "era" is doing fine, smitty.

Lost Thought 00 2009-11-03 08:33:13 PM
Erm, Virginia governorship is quite literally worthless. I think it has been ages since a given party has retained it 2 elections in a row, mainly because the incumbent is not allowed to run.

This is nice and all, but call me when a Republican unseats a Democrat

FapJack 2009-11-03 08:33:14 PM
butthurt?

No, but it's a bit worrying you'd think an event like that would warrant such a low-key monicker.

Yeah, it took Madoff's victims a while to admit they were conned too.

Uh, not really. Virginia is, and always will be, a very conservative state.

The 'democrats' that won there were pretty conservative.

Like... there's a dem in alabama that won in a special election a few years back. I guaruntee you, he's not liberal :)

Poll's Closed! Suck it Obamabots!

robsul82 [TotalFark] 2009-11-03 08:34:20 PM
TPM - exit polls have Corzine and Christine "less than a point apart." Buckle up, it's going to be a long night.

Necrosis 2009-11-03 08:34:31 PM
Nice troll headline, I think I'm going to stay out of the election threads unless something really funny happens in NY-23 or we get something on R71 in my state of WA...

/VA gov != Obama

Racht [TotalFark] 2009-11-03 08:35:01 PM
For any numbers junkies like myself that want up-to-the-minute updates on whether Corzine's going to win or not:

http://elections.nytimes.com/2009/results/new-jersey.html

And to check the county-by-county to see if it's enough to win or not:

Kirk's_Toupee [TotalFark] 2009-11-03 08:35:02 PM
i knew he was going to win.
tbh, both candidates are corporate whores that will continue selling Virginia their buddies.

proteus_b 2009-11-03 08:35:05 PM
it might be because the gov't money used to bus obama voters to the polls last year was busy being used for other purposes this year, like musicals? or because the incumbent sucked? or any other number of reasons?

CaesarSneezy 2009-11-03 08:35:17 PM
Also, state politics are not national politics. I might vote GOP for governor and Dem for President or vice versa. It depends on the candidate.

Isn't Obama over been a story every other day since he was the likely winner?

The sky is falling

Rug Doctor 2009-11-03 08:36:17 PM
If only state governors could do ANYTHING AT ALL to slow Obama down...

You do realize, trollmitter, that the whole "referendum on Obama" meme was created by cable news so we'll give a shiat about midterm election coverage in other states, right?

The Icelander [TotalFark] 2009-11-03 08:36:33 PM
RockIsDead: Obama's already a quarter through his Presidency.

Yes.

Hooray for Obama!

SmedIndy 2009-11-03 08:36:34 PM
Shocked, SHOCKED I am that Virginia went for a Republican governor this cycle. It seems they always go opposite of who is in the white house since the. No, really, they do since Chuck Robb was elected during Reagan's term.

The main issue is that the (D) in this race went negative before he went positive. If you go negative, go positive on what you would do first, then hit the other guy hard.

And the (R) ran away from his hard-right Fallwellian past.

cameroncrazy1984 [TotalFark] 2009-11-03 08:37:09 PM

Aw, you're cute with your false hope.
