Don't I remember that being said about Vista?

Dufus: Don't I remember that being said about Vista?

I generally dislike the "Hi I'm a PC" ad, but I got a good laugh the first time I saw the one that's airing now.

"Windows 7 won't have any of the problems Windows Vista had. Trust me."

"...won't have any of the problems Windows XP had."

"...won't have any of the problems Windows Me had."

"...won't have any of the problems Windows 95 had."

"...won't have any of the problems Windows 2 had. Trust me."

Only funny because it's true.

Just upgraded to Win7 Ultimate - shortest upgrade time ever. When I installed xp years ago, it took nearly a day to install the software, update drivers, download patches, blah blah blah. Took less than 2 hours this time.

We'll see about stability though.

I'm amazed at the number of Windows drones on Slashdot. I thought that place was full of Linux drones.

Ok, ignore my handle for a second here.

80% of the viruses written for windows ran on Windows 7? Really? WTF does that prove? The viruses are written for Windows. If you took ten viruses written for mac, and ten.... you know what forget it.

Microsoft jumped through hoops to keep Windows backwards compatible with older software, and this software includes viruses.

Mac OS X is a fundamentally different framework than previous version of the OS, so the thirty-odd viruses written for the Mac don't run on any current Mac hardware. Then again, no Mac software from before 2001 will run on current Mac hardware either.

Microsoft has such a large market share that it can't make those sorts of moves. And because of that it will probably always have more viruses than the Mac because old viruses run on current hardware.

This isn't really news except to the most rabid fanboys.

I just did my clean install of Windows 7 and it's running perfectly fine. Of course, I don't have any DX10 games to test on it yet, so that will be the real test.

In regards to TFA...Of course you need to run AV on it...WTF? It's still a Windows system.

I've been running W7 for 3 months now. Love it so much more than XP. Rock solid, everything's compatible, etc.

Tried to install Win7 on my 8 month old PC. BSOD during first install, then it won't stay up for more than a minute in non-safe mode before BSODs. Latest drivers for everything. Ubuntu 9.10 doesn't show /dev/sda during install. XP doesn't recognize my drives. Only OS that works is Vista. f my life.

I have never gotten a virus in my entire life. I attribute that to not being a retard with computers. Oh, and Windows 7 is great.

Obvious article is obvious. Viruses are apart of using a Windows OS. If you want to look at porn all day, ad-blocker/AVG/googlechrome ftw.

/Or honestly when I have the cash for it, I'll buy a Mac specifically for porn and my iTunes collection.

I am betting you have sata drives. Find the vista drivers for your sata controller. They will work in 7 and save you the hassles.

Ya if your doing the 32 bit upgrade to 32 bit, or 64 bit to 64. Trying doing a 32 bit upgrade like i did. 43 - 64 is a bit harder. but I found it to be work it. No issues and my system runs pretty damn fast (quad core w/ 8 gb memory). On Vista Ultimat it was ok, but in Win 7, damn this hardware can move damn fast.

haven't had any problems with windows 7 so far. also, there is no replacement for good sense when dealing with computers. doesn't matter if you use a mac or a pc, if you're a dumbass you'll find some way to fark it up

It doesn't mention what was done to get them to run. Without that information, the article and the article linked from the linked article is worthless

My only problem so far with Windows 7 is that it's been making coasters out of my DVD+R DL's that burned fine in XP.

And that's saying a lot for an early adopted Windows OS, imotbqh.

As a developer I find myself explaining this to my less technical mac fanboy friends pretty frequently.

/And by the way, iTunes is a piece of crap. It's too stupid to realize and accept that I have multiple PCs

Pretty much. All it says is they got infected. It does not really explain anything more than that.

I am all for disliking MS, but everyone (including the mac guys and Linux guys) has to admit most issues get caused by the users, not the OS. If you need to run AV, run it. If your that stupid, to hell with you.
