This can't possibly be true. I've been told over and over again (TODAY!) that everyone who voted for Obama regrets their decision and that the Republicans are going to take back Congress in 2010 because of it.

And we all know that Republicans and Fark Independents have a solid grasp on reality. After all, their predictions for the 2008 election were so spot on that they're still letting us in on their little chunks of wisdom at every juncture.

Republicans hate Obama. Why? Change. It's the same reason they hate homeless people: change. If only we could harness the power of wishing wells and mall fountains, we could scare the entire Republican party into absolute submission. The War On Change is about to begin.

This shouldn't be a surprise. I'm less enthusiastic about my support for Obama than I was a year ago, but the Respect Differential between him and his opponents has stayed pretty steady.

You do the math, Republicans. You don't have to make everyone happy. You just have to make people happier than the competition.

As someone who voted for Obama, I will say this:

He ran on Hope and Change. I still have Hope that he will be able to make a significant positive Change for America.

I Hope that the Democrats in congress will rally together to do something, anything. That would be a welcome Change.

I Hope that Obama will deliver on his campaign promises, but understand that sometimes making the right Change is not quick or simple.

Am I thrilled with what he's accomplished to date? No, but he has asked me to be Hopeful that things will Change.

I am among the 54%.

Brilliant platform.

Obama's job approval numbers are a sham. People who confuse job approval and personal approval are tilting the polls.

A majority of people disapprove of Obama's handling of every major issue except one.

50% disapprove of Obama's handling of taxes
54% disapprove of Obama's handling of the Economy
56% disapprove of Obama's handling of Afghanistan
57% disapprove of Obama's handling of health care
60% disapprove of Obama's handling of the deficit

If you disapprove of Obama's handling of 5 of 6 issues, how can you approve of his job performance so far?

Obama is a failure. I told you he would doom his party. Look at the results tonight. Democrats will lose in New Jersey and Virginia, both Obama states. Democrats will lose in NY-23 and all around the nation.

Democrats are tired, because they know that Obama screwed them over. Obama screwed over working people when the Government took over GM and fired it's workers. Obama screws LGBTs by refusing to stand up for their rights. Obama is going to screw working people again with his idiotic health care plan.

Obama has enough Democrats to get the job done, yet the job isn't getting done. Obama can't barnstorm and say "258 House Dems and 60 Senators aren't enough for me to get the job done"

Americans want people who will stand up to Obama and his dictatorial desires. Just like how they stood up to Bush's worst desires, they will stand up to Obama.

Look one thread above this, even the "liberal" new York times is spouting this crap:

Pauline McAreavy voted for President Obama. From the moment she first saw him two years ago, she was smitten by his speeches and sold on his promise of change. She switched parties to support him in the Iowa caucuses, donated money and opened her home to a pair of young campaign workers.

President Obama won Marengo, Iowa, by 14 votes last November, but some supporters are now second-guessing their vote.
"I really thought there would be immediate change," said Pauline McAreavy, 76, a retired school nurse.
But by the time she received a fund-raising letter last month from the Democratic National Committee, a sense of disappointment had set in. She returned the solicitation with a handwritten note, saying, "Until I see some progress and he lives up to his promises in Iowa, we will not give one penny."

"I'm afraid I wasn't realistic," Ms. McAreavy, 76, a retired school nurse, said on a recent morning on the deck of her home here in east-central Iowa.

"I really thought there would be immediate change," she said. "Sometimes the Republicans are just as bad as Democrats. But it's politics as usual, and that's what I voted against.

Ms. McAreavy fears that the president's health care plan will shortchange her Medicare benefits and mean infrequent mammogram examinations."

In other words the Great Gray Lady of American journalism just wasted about columninches on thier front page quoting the political musings of a complete ignoramus who has no clue what is going on in Washington and can't be bothered to educate herself.

I rather wonder how much worse Obama's approval polls would be if the GOP made some attempt at appearing to be interested in bipartisanship. "Stonewalled by the minority party in the legislative branch" is an excellent defense for the Obama administration not advancing their agenda as quickly as some leftists would like. And when you've got folks like Wilson demonstrating that exact point in a nicely packaged soundbite it makes the "Republicans = obstructionist" narrative very easy to sell.

McCainDemocrat - where you err is that in assuming disapproval of Obama will automatically result in a rush to conservationism. There are many of those (including me) who have disapproved of how Obama has handled certain things because, now sit down, he approached them too conservatively. What that means is that in 2012, I will vote for Obama again, even if I like him a bit less than I did in 2008, because I know whowever the Republican candidate is going to be will be more conservative than Obama. And given the direction the Republicans are going, right off the cliff of right-wing insanity, I'm fairly certain they are probably going to run a candidate who previously ran as a John Birch candidate.

Apparently 300+ Democrats in DC isn't enough to get anything done, Republicans just need to do whatever Obama says so that Obama can become more popular. Oh come on, Fjornir. Obama can't even get all of the Democrats on board with whatever his health care plan is at the moment.

If you couldn't figure out how weak and ineffectual Obama was by paying attention during the primaries, then you drank kool-aid. Hillary would have gotten a lot more done because she's good at being an elected official, and Obama is just a good campaigner.

The only way for Democrats to save their White House is for Hillary to resign as Secretary of State due to Obama's weakness on foreign affairs (such as his idiotic failure of a strategy in Afghanistan) and for Hillary to run for President against Obama. Hillary will defeat him and win the Presidency easily and she will put the pieces back together that were broken by the twins (Bush and Obama).

A lot of the people who voted for Obama once will not vote for him again. 69 million people voted for Obama. if 10% of his total stays home, that's 6.9M votes lost right there. Then you have the 59M who voted for McCain being supplemented by former Obama voters (more 2008 Obama voters will vote Republican in 2012 than McCain voters will stay home or switch sides). Then you have the millions of evangelicals who stayed home in 2008 but who voted in 2004.

But Hillary can hold together the Obama base, and bring the Democrats who voted for McCain back to the party.

Hillary can win in 2012, and Obama can't.

Dammit Ikam, didn't you learn anything during the last 8 years? Politics works in absolutes; either you support everything the President and his party do, or you support nothing they do (and thereby support the "other" side).

Why is that such a hard concept to grasp? There's no room here for rationalization and compromise, it just complicates things.
