(Crooks & Liars) In a moment of surprising and most likely unintentional honesty, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) admits that the GOP is blocking health care to prevent Democrats from succeeding
ne2d:Well, yeah--that's kind of what opposition parties do.
But it's not what they are supposed to do. Theoretically they are suppose to try and make the country better, not just oppose everything. If they were opposing because they don't like the legislation is one thing, but just to stop the Democrats is something else entirely.

Except that the headline not only isn't an accurate summary of Hatch's remarks, it isn't even an accurate summary of Crooks & Liars' (tendentious and misleading) spin on Hatch's remarks.
/I believe the usual protocol here is to wish some ill on, or viciously insult, subby but I'll forebear
"The first duty of an opposition is to oppose, and when as is now the case, Government policies are reckless, feckless, and threatening permanent damage to the country that duty rises to the level of sacred obligation." - Arthur Balfour, 1909 speech to the British House of Commons
Someone needs to save up this bit of footage and blanket the country with ads containing it, starting around, oh October 1st, 2010. And containing phrases like "The GOP puts Party before country" and "The GOP wanted you to die to score political points." Probably better phrased than that, but it is obvious that the GOP has absolutely no interest in making America a better place because party means more than anything else.
Hatch is saying that they're stopping the Democrats because the Public Option plan might actually succeed, and if that happens, the body politik will fall helplessly in love with the Dems for all time, thus destroying the GOP?
Unless I forgot something... the bureaucracy of the Federal Gov't is intended [rip me for being naive, it's deserved] to be apolitical, staying out of this crap as much as possible to do their jobs.
This is why political parties are a farking stupid idea.
Maybe elect people based on their actual opinions and abilities? As it stands, you could run Jesus (D) vs Satan (R) and 30% of the country (at least) would still be yelling "Hail Satan!"
And then probably bashing Jesus for his liberal beliefs and calling him a secret Jew, and pointing out that Satan has a great deal more experience in top level organization and management.
Largest known case of collective sour grapes... Somebody call Guinness and give these clowns a prize so we don't have to listen to their juvenile pissing and moaning any more...

Yep. That headline is stating the blatantly obvious. People who don't agree with legislation argue and vote against it.
yes, except he probably thinks it's a good idea in private yet opposes it anyway. Which it what hypocrites do.
For my money, I'm behind it, because my daughter broke her arm in May, and I'm still going round with my insurance company while they squirm like mad to get out of paying for it. fark those leaching bastards.

If you tolerate this kind of behavior from Democrats it will just encourage more of it.
We don't want that.
It must be stopped.

Wouldn't it be great if instead of a D or R next to their name, the media would begin to list all of their top campaign contributors instead?

You don't want Democrats doing anything that is good for the country. Got it.

Oh that's rich. He even delivered the line like he believed it.
Did this guy oppose Bush's Social Security privatization plan?
