If Kings of Leon = "hipster," than my brother is Hipster Runoff.

Oh no! Have KOL reached the point in popularity that the music gods have deemed them not cool? Dammit, if only there were a way to like a bands music without having everyone else like them.

I am glad that I am now old enough to realize that people who criticize talented bands are, and always will be, hipster douche-bags.

Hey guys remember when instead of a greenlight everyday of this over rated indie friendly nickleback for us to biatch about there was a daily greenlight about Kate Perry and a chance to post pics of her rack.

/at least with that flavor of the month there was eye candy to go along with.

Tantrum 2009-11-03 03:41:36 PM
Since when have Kings of Leon been hip? I know plenty of hipsters and they are as oblivious to KoL as I am.

Hipsters don't listen to commercial radio, if that's where KoL can be found.

Added to the cyclical table of Fark greenlights on the music tab:

Bobby McFerrin doing the pentatonic: bi-annually
Vinyl is making a comeback: tri annually
Downloading helps the music industry: quarterly
Something about either Oasis, Pete Dougherty, Bono, or Morrissey doing something self-serving and absolutely stupid but people who still like these irrelevant bands/artists pretend to care about: once per 30-day month
Gene Simmons trying to stay relevant: months that start on Mondays
Kings of Leon complaining about how their old fans abandoned them, their new fans are horrible, and how they're underrated and deserve a track on the the next Twilight soundtrack: bi-weekly.
Other, generic "Kings of Leon" are a bunch of twats threads: tri-weekly

Hipsters? Really?

"Those darn kids and their rock n roll music. Everything was cooler when I was young."

Truth is subby, things weren't cooler when you were young. You just enjoyed life a lot more than you do now. Now that you're old as f*ck, you hate everything. You can't find anything to enjoy anymore, so you call everyone younger than you "a hipster douche". I'm sorry the world is changing and the older you get, the less cool you become. That's life, there's nothing we can do to change it. Lets try to stop being a bitter old fart and learn to enjoy things again. Life is way too short to hate everything the kids are doing.

You forgot the bi-monthly Dave Mustaine or Metallica thread that devolves into Mustaine v. Ulrich for biggest douche and Megadeth v. Metallica for better crappy pop metal band.

My favorite band right now is so much better than your favorite band. You haven't heard of my favorite band though. They're pretty underground. It's a 3 piece band consisting of a 8 year old girl playing the recorder, a 73 year old man playing the xylophone and a penguin on vocals. So much better than anything on the radio. I only listen to vinyl records. I'm pretty cool.

My fav pic of her.

so by judging by the band photos in the article, a hipster douche is simply what is many times referred to as a 'fat loser' or 'gringy nerd'.

thistime 2009-11-03 06:09:40 PM
I had never heard of these guys so I played one of their songs on youtube just to see what it was all about. It doesnt suck that bad but I cant say I was taken in either. Its better than other things like that 'stacys mom' type of music..that's definitely worse.

Whoever they have that is promoting them is really the guy that needs to be thanked. Some promoters are really good at getting their guys face time.

See, this angle never works for making fun of hipsters. It only shows that you aren't really in touch with what is so aggravating about hipsters. It isn't their fiercely individualistic taste in music that makes them so scorn-worthy. If anything, it's the denial of their own conformity to a fad-like fashion and lifestyle. I make fun of my hipster friends for their tight jeans with the saggy butts, their tight sweaters over collared shirts and their insistence on wearing old man hats every day of the week. They have no idea why I make fun of them because, and here's the thing with hipsters, they are willfully ignorant that everybody in their neighborhood is doing the same thing as them and hangs out at the same places as them and listens to the same music as them. Obscurity is not really the hipster's goal; fitting in is, whether they admit it or not.

I mean, you have probably never heard of my favorite band, even though they've been together for 18 years and just released a critically-acclaimed album (new window), but that doesn't make me a hipster. In fact, I'm glad they're finally getting some mainstream attention; they deserve it.

Trust me, you would never call me a hipster if you met me. "Dork" might come to mind, but not hipster.

Agreed. I just can't find it in my heart to hate a band where I truly loved their first two efforts. Hell this song alone almost makes up for the crap they've put out lately. Almost. It starts around 45 seconds in.

As a hipster douche that has listened to kings of leon since youth & young manhood, im quite displeased that the top 40 stations caught on to them, in turn enabling the haters of fark to group them with the likes of nickelback.

FishyFred: You've seen SLC Punk, haven't you?

Yes, but this ain't about that. The only thing I ever see farkers try to pin on hipsters is that they only listen to obscure bands. Tons of people holed up in their mother's basement pride themselves in listening to obscure bands, hoping that nobody ever hears about their secret little finds, and "hip" is not something I would pin on them.

TheLopper: I'd go with "Pompous A-hole".

Heh. Yeah, well...

lol the butthurt is SOOO strong in this thread.

When you start your own clothing line (as a band).... you are no longer a hipster, douche, obscure or anything of the sort. You are a sellout.

I have tried to listen to KOL.... oh man have I.... but it sounds like a sh*tty 70s rock that never made it to a press.
