Voters in Iowa and elsewhere are coming out of the ether: "All my Republican friends - and independents - are sitting back saying, 'Oh, what did we do?"

I know, I can't believe they registered as Republicans either, or for that matter, live in Iowa. Why would a person do that?

Well there's your problem.

boy, the so-called liberal media has really been lambasting obama lately. yet the guy still has a 54% approval rating ( though a CNN piece on that even managed to spin that as a negative).

Ok, so people had unrealistic views of Obama striding into Washington and instantly changing everything.

Go to Politifact's running tracker of Obama's promises to see some of the things he's accomplished so far. I'm not happy with everything he's done and I think he should have been taking much more of a lead role in pushing healthcare reform, but in many ways it's far too early to judge his performance.

Being moderate sucks right now. On the Democratic side you've got people that want to spend, spend, spend, force lots of regulation down your throat, and hate people that are different than them. And on the Republican side, you have people that want to spend, spend, spend, force lots of regulation down your throat, and hate people that are different from them.

So I propose everybody re-read Federalist Papers #10, chill out, and stop being idealouges.

We stopped McCain and Palin from getting in to the White House, that's what we did.

Which is why Obama's approval rating has consistently been at or above the 53% share of the vote he got. Yeah, that sounds like massive regret to me.

That's setting the bar really high, there.

And that's Obama's fault... how?

Maybe the Republican party should stop nominating losers then.

So there's an idiot in Iowa, and for some reason we still place a disproportionate level of importance on the state.

In Iowa, Ms. McAreavy fears that the president's health care plan will shortchange her Medicare benefits and mean infrequent mammogram examinations.

Ah, I understand the problem. She's a moron who believes in scare tactics.

Can we, seriously, stop making the fate of the country depend on Iowa and New Hampshire? It makes no sense at all, neither of those states have anything close to a representative population of the country as a whole.

That's because our primary system continues to be idiotic.

I completely agree. I might start voting for them. That said, is beating a couple of sure losers an "accomplishment"? But I guess after John Kerry lost to a sure loser in '04 it could be seen that way.

We're not the ones who set the bar. The GOP did, by nominating the Old Guy and the Dumb Broad.

/would have voted for McCain in 2000, but he changed a lot in 8 years

John Kerry was a loser of at least equal proportion to W.

John Kerry is married to the Ketchup Queen of South Africa though. So, he's got that going for him.

I would have voted for Obama anyway, but McCain never gave me a reason to consider voting otherwise. Whether it was him or the execution of his campaign I can't say exactly.

I voted for McCain in the 2000 primaries, but voted third party in 2008.
