To bludgeon a 4-ounce animal to death, it takes either a small man or a totally unthinking one-with no respect or consideration for lives humbler than his own.
So he's no better than the animals Peta says are our equals. What's their point?
Not killing animals would lead to massive runs of starvation and environmental collapse as species we currently control run amok and destroy their ecosystems in the absence of predators.
Because that's what we are. We are apex predators. Incredibly efficient and adaptable ones. If we remove ourselves from that equation, we do just as much damage to the environment as we would by removing any other predators from their ecosystem.
It's an incredibly stupid idea from an environmental point of view, as any biologist could tell them.
I was wondering how long it would take for the PETA people to go all crazy about this. It was one bat that someone probably brought into the arena to be a smartaleck. That being said bats are fragile creatures and i am not sure how you would ever "humanely" capture one without injuring it.
That and it was one hell of a move to swat a bat out of the air. I have only ever seen it done by my cat before.

haha seriously. Animal rights activists have never been able to explain away the paradox that animals kill other animals. Unless you are gonna put them in animal jail for doing so, what you are talking about is not "rights" for animals. You don't know what that word means.
I'm a bit surprised it took Peta this long to weigh in on this. I figured they'd have issued a statement before the game ended. When they were replaying it over and over I could just see and hear the Peta folks having popping a collective blood vessel.
If Manu had picked it up off the floor and started ripping its wings off and then start practicing freethrows with it, then you can toss in the Vick Vick comparisons. Vick gave Peta a boost and they are going to run with it at every opportunity they can.
We used to get them in our building section at work...bats not Peta members. They'd come in through the truck loading bays. They can freak you out a bit but they really won't hurt you. They'd fly around a bit and eventually find their way out. If not, you'd find them darwinated in a corner a few days later. I doubt the Manu bat could have found its way out nearly as easy.
I'm fairly certain that PETA is attempting to break into the top 5 of "Best Trolls Ever IRL"
They biatch about everything. I'm surprised they haven't shown up at my doorstep for that goldfish that I killed because I gave it too much food when I was 6 years old.
We need a countering group to PETA. Like PHAT. "People are Hungry and Animals are Tasty" Our mission statement shall be to BBQ every piece of meat we can.

Also: PETA is a bunch of assholes. Animal testing for medicine is wrong, except for insulin which a high ranking PETA official needs.
Killing animals is wrong, unless PETA does it. During 2008 PETA killed 95% of the dogs and cats it took in.

I think they should give him an award for protecting people from a potentially rabid bat just as a screw you to PETA.

I doubt you could smack a bat like that without breaking its wings, and then it's as good as dead.
That said, fark PETA. I like bats, when they're outside eating mosquitoes. But they're some ugly motherfarkers.

They will but they will gradually get louder and louder before they give up so we'll have to deal with that crying brat for a while.

Or maybe they'll ratchet up the frequency and intensity of their stunts involving naked ladies. I'd be OK with that outcome, too.

he apparently had to get a rabies shot because it flew away when they took it outside (read it on deadspin i think, but i'm not 100% sure)
so, the bat was at least able to fly to some extent...
