A half farking game????

Really? Why even bother at that point??

A half farking game????

puffy999 [TotalFark] 2009-11-02 10:23:45 PM
That's pretty much bullsh*t.

vygramul [TotalFark] 2009-11-02 10:29:27 PM
In other news, the Richmond gang-rape suspects have been recruited by Florida.

"We'll see to it they get punished in addition to what the law hands down. I guarantee they'll miss three, maybe four snaps at least."

The sanction is the most shocking since Florida penalized Ted Bundy three quarters for his role as an alleged serial killer.

"We take our ethical responsibilities seriously. Had Ted done that on the field during a game, you can be damn sure he would have had to do Indian Runs all week."

Yeah, even as a Gator fan, that's a bullshiat penalty. That was a super dirty game all-around, but Spikes going for Ealey's eyes like that was farked up.

thomps [TotalFark] 2009-11-02 10:52:59 PM
this is pretty standard across the board. just look at the slap on the wrist they gave wall street fraudsters through the last decade.

Was Spikes the guy from Florida who was calling OU dirty at the beginning of the season?

I love that everyone is pretty much saying "it's okay because football makes you really emotional" They aren't outright saying it but it's not so subtly between the lines. You know what, it's ok to get emotional, show frustration, maybe even push someone but eye gouging is bullshiat. Let's say I got in a heated debate in lecture, after class me and my fellow classmate go at it after class, maybe yell at each other maybe even push each other. Even though technically the push is illegal, if it were to stop there, defuse and both participants were kinda pissed but ok everything would be fine. However, as soon as you try to eye gouge someone it's a whole different ball game.

I meant in the article.
"I don't condone that," Meyer said. ... He got caught up in emotion."
"He's very intense and very emotional and very passionate," Tebow said.
Football is a very physical and emotional game, but there is no excuse for my actions."

At least that's how I interpret Florida's response.

Rodeodoc 2009-11-02 11:14:01 PM
Florida now leads all colleges in convicted felons from their football team, so this isn't surprising. An article in the local Tampa paper today claimed that Meyer was a disgrace to college football - pretty surprising since they usually think the sun rises and sets on the Gators. And that Tebow is the Second coming.

This is pretty hilarious to those of us who remember the "love affair" the SEC had with us in 1984-85.

Spikes should be suspended for more than a half and it shouldn't take conference intervention to get it done. But - and this is going to sound like a copout, but it's true - this sort of thing goes on every Saturday nationwide at the bottom of pileups. It's not restricted to Florida or USC or Oregon or Middle Tennessee. It's football.

Link?

Did Spikes' eye-gouging felony put them over the top or what? Because usually, Florida gets a bad rap around FARK for its leniency on crime, so it would be quite the story if the university led all 300something colleges in the country in convicted felons from their football team.

Or, you could just be talking out of your ass, which wouldn't be the first time.

People may say that but it's not true. The cameras are trained on pileups, Im sure this would be caught a lot more if it happened all the time.

only reason he got suspended at all was because they play vandy next week. the sec wasn't even going to suspend him according to the article, it was Meyer's decision.

Gwendolyn [TotalFark] 2009-11-02 11:28:59 PM
I don't understand coaches that allow their players to get away with shiat like that. Saturday the announcers were talking about the kid at Oregon that punched the Boise State player after the first game this year. They were saying how great it was that the coach was letting him stay with the team (the practice team for this year) and giving him a chance to reflect on his actions. Bullshiat he got a second chance because he was a starter and can come back next year.

But hell I mean at least the coach took him out for the season. Half a game is more insulting than not punishing him at all.

Yeah I always watch the guys fighting for the ball. We caught that as he was doing something to the guy's face on Saturday because it was really freaking weird for him to have his hands in there. My husband thought he was wiping shiat on him or something.

I remember reading something about bringing back later. I'm not usually one to follow the Oregon Ducks I was just watching the game on Saturday because it was awesome. I flipped between games a lot in the evening.

Sorry I thought he had another year of eligibility. After some googling it was last month and they were talking about doing it after the Stanford game not next year.

He's paid to win football games but also to take care of the integrity of the program and the well being of the players. This is college football not the NFL.

So you're cool with it, then? Stay classy, Florida fan. Maybe Sergio Kindle can rip at Tebow's eyes a little in January when Texas is stomping the shiat out of your team. I have a feeling your reaction will look a little like Dawson there.

Cool with what? The eye-gouging, no. The punishment, yes.

And Texas won't beat Florida.

so if every d lineman in the country tries to rip tebow's eyes out for the rest of the season it'll be ok as long as the coaches suspend them for two quarters afterward right? or you can admit that you're an idiot, either way's good.

LaGarret Blount reacts to god only knows what the other guy said and punches him. He gets suspended for the season and some sports writers say that it wasn't enough even though he is a senior and the suspension will kill his draft placement.

Spikes goes after an opposing player's eyes during a game and gets a half game versus Vandy. I think the half game is more of an insult than if they hadn't done anything. Guess the SEC wants to protect those BCS dollars.

Well, if I was Chip Kelly I'd use this as precedent to reinstate Blount. If anyone objects I'd point out the Spikes incident and the difference between reaction to a situation like Blount did and initiating a situation like Spikes did.

I can't wait to hear the Florida faithful try to defend this.

Absolutely disgusting. Half a game, versus farking Vanderbilt. And the SEC thinks it's a good punishment.

Why act shocked? Its well known that hes a dick and most of the other coaches hate him, it will be great to see florida fans cry if he leaves for ND.

This suspension is crap, the SEC should grow some balls and suspend a thug for once.

Not that I recall, but there was an incident back in '03 where a Buckeye choked a player as he was getting up from a tackle. He only got a 1-game suspension as well, the homecoming game against Iowa (#9 at the time, Bucks were ranked IIRC).

For the record I think it was too small a punishment for the infraction. 2-3 games would have been better, maybe even keep the player out of that year's Bowl game too. I think that's a good punishment.

Not the first half against Vanderbilt.

I wonder what the SEC office is going to do to Washaun Ealey for his attack earlier in the game. Oh, did you miss that?
i83.photobucket.com

Oh how about this hit by the Georgia defense?

Both teams were being chippy out there. That's why he ref called captains from both squads to tell them to tone it down. It's why the commentators were pointing it out. Spikes is being suspended, and rightly so. He should probably get at least a full game. But where are the suspensions from the Georgia players who were also pulling the same tricks?
Spikes has no prior history of this kind of action. He's basically a good guy who can get a bit hot-headed at times, and took things too far. To even compare him to Blount, who has had issues in the past and was suspended over the summer, is a joke. Also, I think Blount should be reinstated, if only for his sake; he needs as much support as he can get. The original penalty was far too harsh.
