Tim Tactless:Nobody ever mentions that this vinyl was first released on Def Jam. Blasted revisionist history.
Just remember Rick Rubin's own words:
"Rap wouldn't pay for shiat in 1986. Hell, Slayer sales were just barely getting the company by. I'm still farking amazed I didn't wake up with Dave (Lombardo) and Jeff (Hanneman) standing over me saying, 'We're on MTV and we're getting $2,500 a month' while holding a sack of oranges. Then 'License to Ill' came out and everything was fine after that when I had two bands that actually made money on my label (laughs)."
(minorly paraphrased - couldn't remember if it was a sack of oranges or a sack of marbles in the quote)
/Dave Lombardo's still piassed at Rick Rubin, if you didn't know. When he rejoined Slayer his first demand was that he's not a "member" of the band for tax reasons, he's paid per diem and makes a fixed amount for each show, and if it's a live performance he gets a check cut at the end of the night.
//Lombardo: "I made more money playing in a band that sold 10% of the albums Slayer did. Do the math." (Grip, Inc.)
