As much as I can't stand Wilson, it's a bit disingenuous:

"...the bill also contained other much more money for other plans and programs Republicans at the time viewed as wasteful, including the Cash-For-Clunkers car purchase incentive program."

CPT Ethanolic [TotalFark] 2009-11-02 03:46:51 PM
I was at a dept. of defense meeting about a month ago where one of the top guys working on this vaccine was present. There's nothing Obama is going to do here. There are technical issues with producing the vaccine.

Nabb1 [TotalFark] 2009-11-02 03:49:35 PM
Cramming unrelated expenditures together in bills is as old a practice in DC as anything, but this is one reason I loathe the practice. The GOP shamelessly pulled this with Democrats and the "They voted against funding the troops!" (in fact, they chaged Obama with just that when he failed to vote for a funding bill that removed a prior provision calling for withdrawal from Iraq) and now the Democrats are shamelessly playing the card, too.

From what I understand it takes almost twice as long to produce it as previously thought.

The Obama administration is in a no win situation with the swine flu outbreak.

They either successfully combat the outbreak with informing the public and pushing the vaccines, in which the Republicans will say was an over-reaction used to favor "Obamacare"

OR, the outbreak is significant, thus allowing the R's to say the administration didn't do enough.

There are a lot of people pulling their hair out over this right now. I've been sitting back laughing at people that are trying to blame Obama. We've been meeting for months now trying to get SOPS in place but this vaccine is a motherfarker. Even worse, now that it's been made political the vaccine is not going to go to areas where it's needed, it's going to go to areas where it's most politically valuable/visible.

Last spring, the republicans were screaming that Obama was using "scare tactics" over the swine flu. Now they're screaming that he's not responding fast enough to a "national emergency". Frickin retards.

i agree with you. but it really pisses me off that republicans pull shiat like that all the time - like passing the bush tax cuts using the budget reconciliation loophole. then as soon as dems do the very same thing, they scream bloody murder.

I work for a defense contractor in a red state. In our morning meeting today, a manager asked how many people had gotten any kind of influenza vaccination yet, and no hands at all went up.

Then someone else asked how many people don't want either kind, and about 2/3rds of the room raised a hand.

I weep for humanity.

Well, hell, I guess if we just keep blaming the other party for doing it when they were in power, and they say they only did it because the other party was doing it when they were in power and they only did it because... the next thing you know you're blaming the Whig Party for everything. This is why they should be completely ignored in pretty much all matters. The Dems have the juice to do whatever they need to do and they just have to stop pretending that there's any point in working with the other side.

And yes, Republicans. I know you are justified in getting even for the horrible way Bush was mistreated. You just keep getting your revenge but please don't expect to be taken seriously at any point at the same time.

Archived gumbo and stew recipes from NOLA.com. (new window) The Times-Picayune has a pretty decent food section.

I just bought John Besh's new book "My New Orleans" and he's got one in it, but that's actually supposed to be one of my Christmas presents. Maybe you could Google that and see what comes up.

So, two Thursdays ago I was just sitting around campus studying when a line started to form. I assumed it was going to be a shot, but it was a nasal snorty thing.

The only thing I really remember, which may be different than CPT's point, is when Michelle Bachmann found it "interesting" that this epidemic was happening on Obama's watch:

"I find it interesting that it was back in the 1970s that the swine flu broke out then under Democrat [sic] President Jimmy Carter. And I'm not blaming this on President Obama, I just think it is an interesting coincidence."
http://minnesotaindependent.com/33565/bachmann-flu-carter-ford-obama

Which, of course, the last flu thing happened when Gerald Ford sat in the Oval Office.
