Back on topic, the Government has pretty much ensured that they won't be able to pass a single policy on the basis of 'science' from now on. Not that they'll be in power in 6 months time. Labour have pretty much failed in every area of running the country (except possibly the NHS but they've thrown money at that and most of it was wasted on higher wages and middle management)

Some of those wages (nurses spring to mind) seriously needed raising, though some famously didn't (hello GPs). Some truly spectacular wasting of money seems to have gone on in the part-privatised NHS computer systems.

In the (meagre) defence of Labour, the Conservatives would have the same on drugs except without the brief descent into almost sanity when cannabis went down to class C.

This is true, but the saddest thing is the Conservatives agreeing with the government completely on this issue. Only the Lib Dems are speaking out against this, who are unfortunately never likely to form a government. A Lib/Lab pact in a hung parliament is the closest I can realistically hope for.

This is practically the only realistic situation that could come out of the next election that would make me smile. The Lib-Dems need to get their act together, they haven't been actively exploiting the implosion of the Labour government as well as the Tories have.

I have an acquaintance that did a fellowship at the Mayo who says parents routinely notice that their children are touching themselves while still in the hospital after being delivered, in for a check-up, some procedure, etc. She has to strategically explain it away, because (perhaps unsurprisingly given the prudish nature of our society) if they hear their baby is playing with themselves, they get all weirded out.

I live in a district which has a high Lib-dem and conservative presence, and I get to choose from the lib-dems offering first word on policy to the EU, and rural conservatives shutting down anything which doesn't fit in with their opinion of what a town should have.

Seriously, they already forced out the sex shop and they're now blocking pound shops and those european cheap supermarkets (Lidl, Aldi) from being opened in town because they say that it would "lower the tone" of the place. As if the masses of empty shops doesn't do that already

There's somewhere like that near me, they got pissy over a poundland sign because it was "gaudy" (the same as every single other poundland sign) and ended up forcing them to change it, as well as blocking an Argos from taking over I think what was Woolworths.
