i have seen this same "the honeymoon is over" article since like the third week of office. yes, when policy starts being formed, people start to disagree. this isn't news. this isn't even fark. this is filler.

Yeah, I never got the "Obamania" schtick. The only time I was "excited" was when he was beatin' Hillary up oneside and down the other Winter/spring 2008. I had been somewhat excited over Ron Paul, until I got a glimpse of the behavior of Paulites. In the end, though, I was excited at the prospect of having both McCain and Obama as candidates; I figured I could look forward to civil discourse and a hard choice come November. "Surely it won't be a choice between the lesser of two evils!" I said to myself.

AdolfOliverPanties [TotalFark] 2009-11-02 01:30:18 PM
Obama is great. He is a wonderful man who really cares about helping the American people. He is a deeply concerned, thinking person. He is probably the finest human being we have had as president in the last 100 years.

Sadly though, he is surrounded by crooks and assholes in Congress; Democratic jerk-offs who are running things and only look slightly human themselves because of the Republicans who are around them.

dletter [TotalFark] 2009-11-02 01:33:28 PM
I voted for Obama.

I don't think he has been all that dynamic in office.

That doesn't mean I'm a big fan of Rush, Hannity and Palin now though.

Yes, most people are probably over the "Obamamania" to whatever degree they had it. Only the GOP could take that temperance of enthusiasm as "Oh boy, they now agree with us!".

Ennuipoet [TotalFark] 2009-11-02 01:33:39 PM
I've been pretty "meh" all along. Hope and Change are nice little slogans but are totally unrelated to reality. I expected a Middle of the Road Democrat who primary allegiance is to re-election and... hey look a Unicorn!

/same as it ever was

Racht [TotalFark] 2009-11-02 01:37:47 PM
I wonder if they realize that an Obama who inspires thoughts of "meh" and "whatever" will coast to reelection over whoever they can dredge up to run against him.

"They stay in the truck," grumbled a vendor who identified himself as "Dick," as he pointed to a rusty vehicle behind him. "They don't sell anymore."

Wait, are you telling me that sales of campaign paraphernalia have dropped off now that the campaign is over? This is big news.

1derful 2009-11-02 02:07:26 PM
How come GWB was a "strong leader" because he didn't pay attention to things like poll numbers and the popular vote and Rome is burning because Obama's popularity is around %50?

bikerific 2009-11-02 02:07:53 PM
So why are these "honeymoon is over" articles always from right-wing sites telling us about what liberals are doing?

If liberals are getting so disaffected, surely some liberals would actually. . . Oh wait-- liberals have always been OK with criticizing Obama. For example, Olberman and Greenwald have criticized him on wiretapping, etc.

Of course, that didn't fit the right-wing "messiah" narrative, so now they are trying to work it in as disaffection.

Truncks1 2009-11-02 02:08:51 PM
Is this a repeat from every single month after he took office?

Is he doing too much again? Is he not doing enough again? Is the honeymoon over again?

Make up your farking minds. Whoever thought "change" would come quickly to the nation is an idiot. The constitution is designed so that change comes slowly and I personally like it that way, because the pendulum swings both ways.

Eh, I'm pretty much were I was on election day...

Right choice for the country right now, and hopefully he'll try to govern from the middle and make intelligent decisions based on informed opinions not "gut feelings".

So far, so good as far as I'm concerned...

Ah yes, the all important trinket metric. I hear Obama Halloween masks are down from an all time high as well. Hang it up, it's all over, might as well impeach now.

brigid_fitch [TotalFark] 2009-11-02 02:20:12 PM
I was an Obama supporter & even worked on his campaign through Sept & October 08. I liked the majority of his platforms & wanted a constitutional lawyer as president as opposed to the last guy. I watched the election results at a local campaign headquarters. He won & 95% of my friends & I were happy (2 of my friends are Republicans). No "Obamania" amongst me or any of my friends. I don't even know how Republicans define that.

I usually figure that when someone refers to Obama as "The Messiah" or "The One", or mentions "Obamania", it's coming from some right-wing nutjob. And I was down in the trenches with some very ardent Obama supporters for the final 2 months--not one person called Obama anything other than "Obama".

/Well, except for when I was canvassing door-to-door and 2 people called him a n*gger.

NYCNative 2009-11-02 02:20:27 PM
There are some things about Obama that have made me, a supporter and volunteer, a little sad. Mostly his indifference to campaign promises about gay rights and his seeming backtrack on things that pissed me off about the Bush administration.

However he was elected only one year ago. There are 8 years worth of bad policy he was trying to circumvent, both foreign and domestic, and he had to do so while in the middle of a serious recession (another thing he was handed). Despite this, the economy is turning around and things are getting better and the USA looks a lot better on the international stage and he also has continued to fight for healthcare reform, an uphill battle that has alienated many and derailed Clinton's first term but he did this because it's the right thing to do.

Some of the people he has to work with are not as capable as he is. I want him to pander less to the right and I want him to get people on his side of the aisle to do a better job (Pelisi and Reid, I am looking at you) but then again, I appreciate how he tries to be civil and not divisive in a landscape littered with the opposite.

Overall, it's been about a year since he was elected and only 8 months in office. I never expected a miracle but I wanted someone who would represent the USA well, improve our "brand" and look out for me (the middle class) instead of the ultra-rich. And I think he has done that and I am hopeful for the next 7 1/2 years.

Upon what, specifically, do you base that?

For example, please don't say "what he says, what he's done," etc.

What specifically has he said or done that's led you to that conclusion?

Because I see a guy who has "antipathy to people who aren't like him." (Where did I pick up that phrase?) And whose administration is the most intolerant of dissent or criticism since Nixon's. And who would prefer to be out still campaigning than actually governing.

Oh please.

If (when?) Obama ends up being a one-termer, I fully expect the left to do everything in its power to destroy and oppose whatever Republican holds the big chair. No matter what he/she says or does. Because you will all be so bitter and vengeful.

Hell, you're bitter and vengeful when your guy won!

Republicans currently oppose Obama's/Pelosi's ideas because they are remarkably bad and expensive. Your side will oppose the next Republican president regardless of what his/her ideas are, because Obama got opposed and it's time for payback.

And round and round we go.

Headso 2009-11-02 02:25:52 PM
I wasn't excited when he was elected but I did think he was going to be a bit more to the left then he turned out to be so I guess I'd be more apt to take a shiat on the guy now then last November.

ifarkthereforiam: I saw a bumper sticker this weekend. It said "I'll treat your president with the same respect mine got." I believe this pretty much sums up the republican reasoning to their opposition to Obama.

And like a lot of their reasoning, it's a load of shiat. After 9/11, Bush's approval ratings were about as high as you will ever see and the world community was lining up to assist us. Bush had a chance and he blew it spectacularly. Did Obama ever get the same chance from his foes?

I will also bet that the attitude on the Right would be a lot different if there ever was (God forbid) another terrorist attack on us than it was for the Left towards the Republican administration.

Before we were told that we were not Patriots if we questioned Bush, we on the left stood behind him and hoped for the best. You really think that the ones who root openly for Obama to fail would not use another attack politically before the dustr even settled? If so you haven't been paying attention.

Tell me an adminstration since Nixon's that's been more intolerant of dissent than the Obama administration. I'll wait.

For the literate, I didn't say Obama's White House is as paranoid as Nixon's, I said it's the most intolerant of dissent since Nixon's.

And I'd love to see some Obama acolyte argue otherwise and actually back it up.
