Yet more evidence of the power of the poon: Women can get laid at any time by just saying "yes". Men can only get laid by convincing women to say "yes".

Sybarite [TotalFark] 2009-11-02 10:39:09 AM
The study also found that male homosexuals were 11 times more likely to be virgins than heterosexuals, while female homosexuals were 6 times more likely to say they were virgins than heterosexuals.

I'm curious as to what we are defining as virginity here.

Of course. This is also why even when we truly believe in equal rights, even if the man and the woman have similar incomes, the guy usually pays. He's afraid that if he doesn't, she might find someone who will.

FTFA:

people join the military for reason other than aggressive tendencies. "The entire reason for the low rate of virgins with military experience is likely less clear than simply those with violent or risk taking tendencies," they add.

Simple answer: We drank a lot, and went actively looking for it.

It's really hard to remain a virgin when you are young, have a decent amount of cash, are reasonably in shape, and wear a snazzy uniform.

Hell, I got laid once when I was home on leave just because I was stationed in Hawaii. That made me "exotic", never mind that I had graduated high school about 20 miles away.

Just as notable as the characteristics associated with middle-aged virginity are the traits that aren't. Weight, income, and health all showed no association with virginity in men or women.

Remember that. Next time you see a 400lb slob in a motorized scooter at Wal-Mart chances are someone is banging that...

OK

The site says 1.1 million men and 800k women between 25 and 45 never had sex.
It also says 13.9% men and 8.9% women of the same ages.
That means there are only 7.9 million men and 8.9 million women between the ages of 25 and 45.
According to my data(pops) there are 42.5 million men and 42.4 million women.

Divorced and otherwise unmarried people between 25-45 are the population that they studied, which most likely accounts for the much smaller-than-expected population they cite.

The commenters on TFA think that this is some egregious oversight on the part of the reporter and those that did the study. Sorry, morons (not you, SoS), but married people are basically never virgins in our society. Born-again virgins? Maybe.

I found that the military vets being close to the norm was surprising initially, and then I actually put some thought into it. Women love a man in uniform, and I certainly never had any problem meeting women that found it interesting. However, I knew countless guys in the Navy that were either dorks with a bad haircut or were ashamed of being in the Navy, thinking that chicks hate guys in the Navy. No, they hate guys that are too spineless to be proud of whatever they are. So all in all the researchers' results matched my experience in that sense.

One of my shipmates was a born-again, evangelical Christian. He didn't drink because it was a "sin," regardless of what that Jesus fellow had to say on the matter. He and his girlfriend were saving themselves for marriage. Hooray for them.

What he wasn't "waiting for" was to purchase more porno than I've ever seen or even heard of in one guy's possession. I'm a submarine sailor and I'm saying the guy had way too much porn. They also somehow figured out that teh buttsecks and requisite ATM was totally cool with Buddy Christ. I didn't think that I could have respected him less after seeing his performance as an officer, but I was wrong.

That must be a collection of some fugly women to have survived four years in a target-rich environment (presumably away from your parents) -- and still come out a virgin.

I looked at that this way... most hetero guys I know lost their virginity at the end of a spirited but clueless quest for pussy. We didn't know what to do with it, we just knew that we had to have it and we begged, pleaded, and traded down to get it. Imagine, however, replacing all that exuberance with complete insecurity about your sexuality and the ability to say "no" to your girlfriend that you only have because it seems to be what other people are doing. You are, as a teenager, less likely to have sex.

As an adult you start learning about all the STD dangers that are far more highlighted for gay men than they are straights, and that gives you pause. Maybe you're a top that fell in love with another top, so it is a lifetime of BJs that no one could really complain about.
