It's because you are already dead on the inside.

If only there was some way the concerned parents FTFA could monitor their childrens activities or participate in their lives instead of running them to doctors.

*sigh*

I decided to have the article printed out, by another person with internet access, for me so I can read it safely.

You don't expect parents to watch their own kids, do you? Television and ADHD drugs are all a growing child needs to be safely kept sedated.

The trouble signs are all there. They don't sleep enough, they don't eat right, they've lost touch with their friends, and their school performance has dropped off a cliff.

Sounds like someone got married and had kids.... but substitute work for school.

Obviously, there is some truth to this.
If someone were to kick the internet habit, living a "normal" life that involved hours of insipid TV viewing would be much worse.

True enough, but something doesn't have to kill you to destroy you.

I guess when I was a kid I was addicted to playing baseball, crawling around in the muck in this creek near my house, shooting bottle rockets at my friends, and having snowball fights.

I know parents who barely let their kids outside, and when they do the kid has to wear a helmet just to ride a bike. Pretty soon they'll have airbags built into the kids' clothes so if they fall over they won't scrape themselves.

Lawn. Off. G'way.

Maybe subby can only read it on the internet - the Globe landed on my porch at 5.

Not that I'll read it - there might be funny videos to watch or snarky comments to make!

Seems to me this is the only place you should post an article like this.

If I wrote an article telling people that don't go to church that they should go to church, I don't think I would post it in a church.

If you write an articke warning that people are spending too much time on the internet, post it on the internet.

/I'm off to write an article warning the Farking is bad for your career.

I got my retired dad a netbook recently and he now spends all of his time surfing the internet while Fox News drones on the television. He wont go to the Fox News website tho, figures it might break something.

There's no issue when you open up foxnews on the computer with it on the TV at the same time.

However just don't turn Beck on your radio at the same time.

That'll suck your house into a singularity.

But singularities always seemed so pure to me somehow.

Ditto.

About 10 years ago the Boston Globe Magazine published a great article on helicopter parents entitled: 'Nice Try, Stupid'. If I can find it I'll post it.
