See kids, if you only drew stick figures, you could use the time you saved to come up with this!

Boo your opinion!

Schadenfreude ist die schoenste Freude [TotalFark] 2009-11-02 06:11:40 AM
xkcd is funny, but there are a decent amount of crap cartoons mixed in that either try to be preachy and screw up the message, or are just plain boring.

When he sticks to math humor, it's better.

Your link is made funnier by the praise of today's comic.

/this one needs to be made a poster
//it's fun to track the characters on the chart and remember the sections of the book

Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach. Those who can do neither, create websites criticizing those who can.

That was pretty cool. Now I want to watch Primer ;)

benlonghair [TotalFark] 2009-11-02 07:22:00 AM
Except that Sarumon and Wormtongue don't die in the flooding of Isengard, they move to the Shire and take over there which is one of the last scenes of the book.

Hoboclown 2009-11-02 07:23:47 AM
I didn't realize LOTR was so hard to follow that people needed charts to figure out what happened.

mhd 2009-11-02 07:25:55 AM
benlonghair: Except that Sarumon and Wormtongue don't die in the flooding of Isengard, they move to the Shire and take over there which is one of the last scenes of the book.

There never was an industrial revolution in the Shire. There's no such person as Tom Bombadil. There never was sequel to Highlander.

I'm confused. . .oh! Movie Plot, not book plot.

I dunno, to me it looks like XKCD found a perfect way to keep track of their virginity.

Pimple 2009-11-02 07:36:31 AM
The LOTR and the Jurrasic park are obviously based on the movie versions, cause Hammond gets it at the end of the book.

I sit on the floor and pick my nose

Like dragons who wear rubber clothes

Except the comic is CLEARLY titled "Movie Narrative Charts" and is therefore not talking about the book.

Thanks for the analysis, though, because I'm sure none of us knew that.

Pimple: The LOTR and the Jurrasic park are obviously based on the movie versions, cause Hammond gets it at the end of the book.

Again, considering the title of the comic, I bet they are all based on the movie versions.

Truthiness [TotalFark] 2009-11-02 07:53:11 AM
Yeah, these are all movie versions. The novelization of Primer makes much more sense.

rogue49 2009-11-02 07:53:17 AM
book pattern is irrelevant here.
seems to be tracking movies.

gregfark 2009-11-02 07:58:25 AM
You know, it seems to me these charts are only about the movies. Randall should have indicated that in some way.

YodaBlues 2009-11-02 08:00:10 AM
Wait, is this based on the movies or the books?

Pooter 2009-11-02 08:01:32 AM
I got a good chuckle out of the Primer one. Fantastic movie, but it's a real head-scratcher after even a dozen viewings.

A little advice: Learn. To. Draw.

coco ebert [TotalFark] 2009-11-02 08:05:36 AM
That's good storytelling. If you're ever in Paris, go to Balzac's house. There's a huge map that covers a whole wall and all it illustrates are the characters of his novels and how they relate with one another.

Oh, and I have no idea what Primer is.

cluelessguru 2009-11-02 08:06:07 AM
I'd love to see this for "Kill Bill 1 & 2", "Pulp Fiction" and "Momento".

Pooter 2009-11-02 08:09:37 AM
coco ebert: Oh, and I have no idea what Primer is.

Primer is about as close to a truly thought-provoking take on a time-travel story as you're likely to see on the big screen. Very low-key and awfully confusing.

mjgrazi23 2009-11-02 08:11:32 AM
What's Lord of the Rings?

You really think xkcd is about the drawing?

SteelCityKid 2009-11-02 08:14:08 AM
Where's your website generating revenue while being among the more popular web comics? I like XKCD, every comic he draws doesn't need to be so steeped in obscure references and complicated math jokes to be funny or accepted. People who like to kill other peoples' enjoyment of something are hollow pricks. They can't like something for what it is so you can't either. Wah.

coco ebert [TotalFark] 2009-11-02 08:17:06 AM

Great. Another movie I would need farking cliff notes to get through. That's not how it should work, folks.

Magua's village and lodges were burnt. Magua's children were killed by the English. Magua was taken as a slave by the Mohawks who fought for the Grey Hair. Magua's wife believed he was dead and became the wife of another. The Grey Hair was the father of all this.

In time Magua became blood-brother to Mohawk to become free. In his heart he always was Huron. And his heart will be whole again on the day when the Grey Hair and all his seed are dead!

uhg, no. No no no no. I like XKCD usually but it's not for communicating complicated info like this. Stick to the three-panel format and you have my attention 50% of the time (the other half being devoted to programming languages I've barely heard of).

Yeah, reminded me a little of the Primer flow charts I've seen.

jack21221 2009-11-02 08:38:43 AM
To clarify my statement, Randall's Primer flow chart reminded me of actual attempts at making a Primer flow chart.
