Poor Bucs.

I grew a special area of hatred for them after being my team in the last Superbowl appearance by both, but now I just feel sad.

Oh and I was off the mark, I said Titans would be the last team to get a win. I guess having VY start shook things up a bit.

Wow, they really suck don't they. When will they get their Boobies-Garcia victory?

Gruden is laughing all the way to the bank, just like he did when he got shown the door by the Raiders

That's my problem with a lot of franchises. They are forced to win now.

There are a lot of great coaches that have had ups and downs, but once they get the players they need, they win. Bill Cowher was great early on, then had good to mediocre teams, before getting all the players together for a SB victory.

Gruden probably needed a couple of years and some good players to win again. I could be wrong, but he did turn the Raiders into winners, and won a SB, so I think if they gave him a chance he may have done good things.

To be fair, he won a Superbowl using a team that Tony Dungy built and the team he played against, he had designed the play book for. I like Gruden, but one has to wonder if he'd have any rings had he not had that very fortunate set of circumstances dropped into his lap.

Considering the Raiders got jobbed out of the playoffs the previous year, I don't think anyone really doubts that the Raiders that lost to Tampa would have been a serious championship contender WITH Gruden. I would suggest that the Raiders wouldn't have collapsed in the subsequent years either, considering how inept a head coach Callahan has proven to be at Oakland and Nebraska.

That is very true. But the team he helped build made it to the Super Bowl also. And even though he had trouble with QBs and other positions, at least the Bucs were wining once in awhile.

I mean you never know what will happen. A head coach has it tough, because he can't do it all. There are assistants that call plays, employ schemes, and teach the players. It's up to him to keep it all in check.

Asst. coaches come and go, players come and go, and a decent coach can at least win games no matter what. He definitely didn't do worse than what is currently happening. ALthough he did end last season on a down note.

Bollocks!

If I had not tuned in to MNF this year, I would say that this season proves Gruden is a smart guy. However, the guy gave credit to Belichick for McKelvin's fumble in the first game of the season. I'd like to claim that nerves got the best of the booth rookie, but that was just such an idiotic statement.

Getting rid of Gaines Adams makes no sense whatsoever. If you are a young team in rebuilding then you keep your young talent. It seems that there is a lack of talent on the defense especially along the defensive line. I don't get this move at all. Getting rid of Ronde Barber would make more sense. By the time you guys are good again he'll be gone anayway so you might as well get something for him. I guarentee there is a contender out there that needs a CB. I'd ship him out for a 3rd rounder.

Tell that to the Cardinals. Their division is AWFUL. They wouldn't even have made it to the playoffs last year if the division wasn't a steaming pile of poo.

And the only reason they'll probably make it THIS year is because their division is a steaming pile of poo.

I think Cardinals and 9ers are both solid teams this year, just a bit short on inconsistency.

And I know "only a W counts" etc, but you can't ignore that the 9ers were within a hair's breath of beating the Vikings and staging a huge comeback against the Texans, in addition to being the first team all year to manhandle the Colts O Line.

The shiat sandwich belongs to the AFC West this season. Chiefs, Raiders, and (even though their fans mostly don't admit it yet) Chargers all stink.

Actually Alex Smith has been looking pretty good. I think they will win some ball games very soon. He is developing a rapport with Crabtree and Vernon Davis. I would not be surprised if they went on a tear.

Their schedule isn't too hard either. They have:

Tenn
CHI
GB
JAC
SEA

ARI
PHI
DET
STL

You may laugh but I think they can win 8 of those games. I just don't see them beating Philly at home.

Out of that remaining schedule, the only teams I'd say they have ANY business losing to are the Cardinals and the Eagles. They should stomp everyone else on the remainder of that schedule.

The way their defense got to Peyton Manning this week, means they should get about 85 sacks on Aaron Rodgers, so thats why I'm saying they beat GB.

Cleveland's single win, by a 6-3 score, should have an asterisk on it. And I heard ESPN last night detail the more than $30 million that Lerner owes the fired Browns' coaching staff.

spacechicken170am: Getting rid of Gaines Adams makes no sense whatsoever.

Well, considering the Bucs passed on Adrian Peterson (granted they had just drafted a running back the previous year, but how could you pass on that), I'd say that needs to be the benchmark. Is Gaines Adams an impact player of Peterson's caliber? Obviously not. Is he even an impact player at all? Obviously not. He gets 2 tackles a game on average; with one sack every 3 games on average. He is filling a roster spot and not much more.

He has one move. It is an outside speed move and LTs know that is all he has. He has no strengh to come off a block on an inside move and whenever he tries it, he is either pancaked or so innefective it's like the LT gets to take a play off.

Kiffin worked for 2 years with this guy to develop other techniques and he couldn't do it. Kiffin has the ability to get the most out of guys who would be benchwarmers on most teams and he couldn't get jack out of this guy. Getting a second rounder for him is a steal. He's a bust. He looks bad on paper and worse in game. Time to move on.

I'd hold off judgment on Adams until we see what Marinelli can do with him. He's managed to get Ogunleye to match his entire 2008 sack total in 7 games and looks like he's getting Harris off his ass as well.

I see the Gaines Adams acquisition as one for an unproven guy with a lot of upside. And for a 2nd round pick, you could do worse.

/and you always wait 3 years before calling a draftee a bust

iamskibibitz: Maybe they can convince Vinny Testeverde to come out of retirement one last time for that game.

Steve Deberg !! I've always been strangely impressed with him for reasons that will soon be clear.

Walsh drafts him in SF then soon thereafter drafts Montana. Bye bye Steve.
Deberg lands on the Broncos, who soon draft Elway. Bye bye Steve.
Then he lands in Tampa Bay, who soon draft Young and Testaverde. Bye bye Steve.

and cut/pasting from the wikipedia
DeBerg passed for over 34,000 career yards, and ranks in the top 20 all-time for attempts, completions, and yards passing. DeBerg's best years were with the Chiefs, during which he led the team to two playoff berths and had his best year in 1990 with a 96.3 quarterback rating, passing for 3,444 yards, 23 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions. Chronologically, most of his career was spent in a back-up role, and he never spent more than 64 games with any one team.

DeBerg also acquired a reputation for playing through particularly gruesome or unique injuries. He played with laryngitis and wore a portable amplifier during regular season games with San Francisco. He also played with an exposed metal pin sticking out of his finger in a Chiefs playoff victory in 1990. In 1993, he left a Dolphins game versus the New York Giants battered and bloodied after taking a helmet to the chin, only to return to the game following halftime.

As long as we have Raheem "Radio" Morris as head coach this team is going to look pitiful. The guy has a perfect record as a Defensive Coordinator. Slight problem with that stat. He became D Coordinator and never coached a game as D coordinator because Gruden got fired and he got promoted to head coach. From a Defensive backs goach to head coach in less than 3 weeks.
