Prisoners are only allowed out of their cell for an hour a day and kept in almost constant isolation, and are never allowed to interact w/ other prisoners.

As President Barack Obama's deadline to close Guantánamo looms, some occupants of the notorious detention centre would rather prolong their stay than be sent to maximum security prisons on the US mainland, according to camp officials.

But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother.

I accuse myself of the following crimes...
I have seduced Party members of both sexes...
I've been to the proletarian areas...
I deliberately contracted syphilis in order to spread the disease...
to my wife and other Party members.
Together with other agents, I have counterfeited banknotes...
wrecked industrial machinery, polluted the water supply...
guided Eurasian rocket bombs to targets on Airstrip One...
by means of coded radio signals.
I stand here, a victim of the influence of Emmanuel Goldstein.
Guilty on all counts.
I'm glad I was caught. I was mentally deranged.
Now I am cured.
I ask only for you to accept my love of our leader.
I ask only to be shot while my mind is still clean.

Weaver... what's this headline about?
It's about prisoners wanting to stay.
Am I right?

And really, if you were being forcibly raped every day, would you want to stay?

But if the love of your life Abdul Hasseem Al-Ackbar was sharing a bunk with you and if you left, you'd both go to different countries and probably never see each other again... which would you rather choose? Stay in prison with your love, or leave and go live in a country where if they ever caught even so much of a whisper of the one true love you had, your own family would stone you to death like a dog in the street.

Your choice.

Besides, I hear those goat and hummus HotPockets taste freaking awesome.

not according to the movie I just watched. There was lots of rape and lots of consent.

Although, if you mean legally, I have no idea. Prison rape is a horrific occurrence and it's shameful it is so ignored. Yet another broken link in our 'justice' system.

Alas, I was not able to select the movie. I am intrigued though: been called nauseating, shocking, depraved, pornographic . . . it is also a masterpiece.

Also, the first link in Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought: is to a movie called Forced Entry and it made me laugh far more than appropriate for such a topic.

Are you in college/university? If so, then the merits of this work should stand up against any supposed claims of pornography. If you are in high school still... well then that would be a definite no. And if that's the case, I would ask you to stop bringing pedo-bear around Fark since as much as we love to post Chris Hanson's pic, we really would all rather not have a "seat over there".

Perhaps that was the idea, but in the end it didn't work. "In every practical sense Guantanamo is not abroad; it is within the constant jurisdiction of the United States... Art. I, § 9, cl. 2, of the Constitution has full effect at Guantanamo Bay" (Boumediene v. Bush, 2008)

The detainees have no more right to be held in Gitmo without trial than the US government has right to hold them their without trial.

Eddie Barzoom 2009-11-02 09:14:16 AM
I think this is another example of this administration's Aikido approach to the media and opposition in congress. People don't want to sent terrorists to domestic prisons? Start leaking how much the superterrorists hate the idea of supermax. Yeah, that's the ticket.

It's a solomonic choice for the jingoists. Terrists are evil! Terrists should get what's coming to them! Everything terrists like is bad! Everything terrists hate is good! Terrists hate the idea of going into the penal system! Therefore-

grind, hiss

Oh the detainees at Guantanamo are just pissed because they're not going to get their 80 degree weather, and plushy lifestyle at a Federal Supermax where there are PEOPLE WHO ARE WAY WORSE THAN THEY ARE BEING KEPT.

And I'm sure this idiots will drum up the argument that being sent to Colorado is some kind of "cruel and unusual punishment" because it snows there, and they'll be treated like that assholes that they are. Geneva Convention? HA

1. I don't think anyone here is going to claim it's a perfect system.
2. Right to speedy trial isn't actually at issue here. Only the defendant has that right, so if they want, that right can be waived. However, waiving that right does not create some sort of new right to an indefinitely delayed trial.

I'm sorry, but WHAT???

You're the one who brought up the Constitutional (6th Amendment) Right to be tried by a jury (you did it at 2009-11-02 08:32:24 AM), and now you're saying that while your chosen part of the 6th Amendment is important for your argument, the rest of the Amendment, the part that I brought up, isn't valid?

I think we'd all like you to show your work on this one.
