Did you watch the game subby? Iowa doesn't look like a top 5 team. But neither does Florida.

Iowa got bailed the fark out majorly that game. I wouldn't put them in the top 10 if I had a vote.

I, for one, I'm looking forward to the national title game between Boise State and TCU.

If you think Iowa is better than any of the teams that are ranked above them, you are on crack rock.

vygramul [TotalFark] 2009-11-01 05:17:55 PM
No kidding, BGates, Iowa sucked. Indiana was robbed of a TD at one point, and a few other questionable calls went against them. And I root for Iowa. They deserved to drop in the ranks, no question.

By this logic, no team should be ranked.

This is the lamest college football season in recent memory. Not a single team really impresses me this year.

Texas can win it all, and as an Aggie, I'm happy for them. But, this media love affair with them is worse than the Cowboys ever was. Colt McCoy is not a Heisman candidate this year...at all.

oldebayer [TotalFark] 2009-11-01 08:19:50 PM
Terry Bradshaw actually said something intelligent today: he said Iowa must carry their own replay officials around with them, and that Indiana got hosed.

At least the poll correctly dropped Alabama for loafing around this weekend. Slackers.

Really the only reason Iowa deserves to be ranked at all is that there really aren't any other teams stepping up to the plate.

I'm still pulling for a Cincy-TCU or TCU-Boise National Title game. But the only way for that to happen is for Florida and Alabama to both have at least two losses, and Texas and Iowa to each get one.

That was some of the most horrid officiating in a game that I have seen in quite some time. The overturned touchdown call was unbelievable.

If Iowa hangs on to their ranking, they will play a very good team in a bowl game and get trounced.

the toughest part is over, yeah. It also looks like the rust from the first month of the season is gone. these last two games were supposedly trap games, but the defense is just stifling, and McCoy is making the throws that got him all those Heisman votes last year.

exactly, colt has been sick for weeks, our running back is back on the field and the young defense is putting up the big numbers.

remember doubters out there, Texas is scoring with all three teams- offense, defense and special teams.

The article is about their AP ranking, not their BCS ranking, which is buoyed by their #2 ranking by the computers.

The computers also totally ignore margin of victory. While I get that sinnce there was some desire to reduce running up the score, it causes a problem when it ignores the basic fact that Iowa is barely getting by some less than stellar teams.

I wouldn't bet against Oregon in any match up right now. I don't know what the hell happened in Boise, but they completely dismantled Cal and USC, while Iowa barely gets by against weak Big 10 opponents every week.

I wish it was Cal, but I'm just glad to see any team keep USC from going to the rose bowl this year.

This year has provided us with the most clear evidence that I can remember of just how biased conference officiating crews are towards the conference leaders/possible national champion "horses".

And the NCAA doesn't even so much as bat an eye to every f*cker in the media pointing this out.

Actually, it's better not to look at the North this year. They're so bad that K-State would be third or fourth in the Big Eleven.

Pssst... For those of you still crying about that TS being overturned, stop focusing on the feet and look at the ball. The ball was bobbled and moving around his chest until after he was on the ground out of bounds. He never had possession of the ball.

Now, if only either Bama and/or Florida and Texas lose, Iowa will be in the NC game and the crying will be astronomical here on fark.

I can't wait to hear the wharrgarbl from the Playoff whiners. Iowa has done something few other teams have done and that is not lose. And they've not lost to some pretty decent teams, if you listen to the computers which aren't giving fellatio Tebow of Nazareth.

If you watched the game, justice was served. Iowa played horribly, and yet, still managed to get a win after the refs finally started throwing flags for Indiana Interceptions. I kid of course, but it seemed that way.

In other BCS news, it feels good to know that even though USC has lost two games, one of them to Washington, it is still in the top 15. (please note sarcasism here)

Penn State despite looking strong and having the best defense in the nation (in terms of PPG) is still not in the top 10.

Boise State and TCU are getting screwed.

My last thought is this. Right now in the BCS standings Penn State is #11 and Pitt is #13. Please, Dear Let this be a bowl game!

I still dream of a playoff system. Boise State, TCU, and Cincinnati are all playing well. It would be a shame to have Florida, Texas, and one of those schools go undefeated and only have Texas play Florida for the championship.

Don't forget OU is 5-3 and yet somehow still ranked.

BarrRepublican 2009-11-01 11:21:35 PM
The problem with Iowa being ranked #7 or #8 by the pollsters is that it's a complete reversal of the reason that a TCU or a Boise St has been kept out in the past, namely the excuse that their strength of schedule is garbage and therefore don't get a shot.

If this Iowa team goes undefeated and maintains the best S.O.S. of the available undefeated teams, and they still get shut out of the NC game, then it's time to just admit this system has lost any shred of credibility that it had left and try something else.

And you know who's fault it is that Iowa is up there in the first place? It's all of those same idiots who biatched and moaned that margin of victory should be discounted because BSU was hanging 50 on their WAC opponents every week and god forbid a 10-1 USC might have to sit out in favor of an actual undefeated team. You can't biatch that margin of victory should only matter when it helps your team, it's disingenuous.

Oh well. Here's looking forward to Hawks and Ducks in the Rose Bowl.

T-Luv: The computers put Florida over Iowa, FYI.

I know that, but I would say that GA is a better team than Indiana is which barely pushed them ahead of Iowa in the computer polls.

If the computers were powered by ESPN the Gators would have been 1st last week and by a wide margin.

BarrRepublican: Oh well. Here's looking forward to Hawks and Ducks in the Rose Bowl.

That's one match up that I wouldn't like. I'd rather Iowa play USC than Oregon, especially the way they are playing in recent weeks.

Of course, they will have to contend with Iowa's slow big ten(11) speed which couldn't match up remotely close with Arizona's magnificent Pac 10 speed earlier this year.

And the S.O.S. for TCU/BSU/Cincy should push them behind Iowa. Iowa has had a brutal road schedule this year, which is why the computers have Iowa ranked so highly. If Iowa can continue to win and end this season 12-0 I'll be more than happy, especially with a big win in the Shoe.

And I know, Iowa just can't match up to the almighty SEC and their speed. Which is why Iowa is 5-1 vs the SEC this decade.

T-Boy 2009-11-01 11:30:42 PM
The "PAC-10 needs someone in contention or the voters will just die" phenomenon is overselling Oregon, just like it oversold USC

I've been saying it for a few weeks, the big part of the story will be written this week when LSU plays Bama. LSU is getting better each week, much better. Bama is getting statistically weaker. If LSU can knock off both unbeaten Bama and then take down unbeaten Florida in the SEC championship game, this whole BCS rating system will explode. Then the unbeaten cupcakes who don't play anyone good will be in a fix. LSU can beat Bama, but it will be tough. Florida is beatable. If LSU wins this week, the game is finally on.

Theseus 2009-11-01 11:32:49 PM
Penn State despite looking strong and having the best defense in the nation (in terms of PPG) is still not in the top 10.

Pretty easy to have a highly ranked defense when you are playing cupcakes. I have a great deal of respect for Jo-Pa, he runs a program with class. But come on, you are ranked right where you should be. Penn State had a chance for 4 OOC games this year and they played:

Eastern Illinois, Syracuse (the lone BCS conference team), Akron, and Temple. Seriously, that's who they played. In conference, they have only played one ranked foe to this point, and lost to them.

LSU has a very good D and I could see them knocking off Bama this coming weekend and I would LOVE to see that. However, Bama has 2 weeks to get healthy and to game plan and prepare for this game. As long as they dont' have a let down and are able to focus and have LSU make the mistakes, they'll win. (And then LSU will jump the Hawkeyes in the polls after another "lucky" win.)

NYRangers68 2009-11-01 11:38:43 PM
I know their wins haven't been pretty, but the Hawkeyes need a little more respect than this..

Look who they have beaten to this point:
1. Northern Iowa
2. Iowa State
3. Arizona
4. Penn State
5. Arkansas State
6. Michigan
7. Wisconsin
8. Michigan State
9. Indiana

Throw out the Northern Iowa and Ark. State games and just look at the teams from the powerhouse conferences. The Hawks have one of the most brutal road schedules in the country. They went to Iowa State, Penn State, Wisconsin and Michigan State and won..Throw in a solid non-conference win against Arizona, who is playing well this year and the Hawkeyes have a solid resume.

So you want to see teams run up the scoreboard on shiat teams? Look at UT's schedule this year. A third of those games, the second string played for at least a full quarter just so the score wouldn't have gone to triple digits. And everytime a coach does do that, he gets blasted constantly by the press for being unsporting.

adambuck [TotalFark] 2009-11-01 11:48:44 PM
Iowa has lost several starters including running backs. Indiana still scored off one of the supposed bad calls. Iowa had a 4-1 turnover ratio in the fourth quarter and still won by eighteen. I don't believe Florida, Bama, or Texas could pull this off. For those bashing a bowl game against Iowa, remember Iowa beat South Carolina and the old ball coach in a bowl game to be the only Big Ten team to win a bowl game. Iowa has the nations 2nd longest winning streak second only to Florida. Iowa must be doing something right.

Michigan State is nobody and almost beat them. Indiana is nobody, and they needed to advantage of bad officiating to demoralize their opponent into giving up. Iowa State is a mediocre team in the terrible Big 12 North. Michigan is at the bottom of their conference. Wyoming and Penn State were their only wins worth speaking of. All the teams ahead of them have played equally tough games and won, as have some teams below them. It's all moot, since they will be Exposed by Ohio State in two weeks and will not likely be a BCS contender.
