(Contact Music) Silly David Hasselhoff compares himself to Amy Winehouse. Well, they're both alcoholics, they've both used up their fifteen minutes and yet are still around, they've released terrible albums, and inexplicably have a large fanbase   (contactmusic.com) divider line 33

It's so sad when Hasselhoff is the one you'd rather look at.

So who's willing to make a recursive winehouse?

Hasselhoff needs to stop the pity parade. Yeah, he's a washed-up loser actor who's either had a career with a talking car or a variety of breast implants ratcheted to gullible one-note starlets, but for fark's sake, what does he want? Take your money and self-destruct elsewhere while the rest of us eke through life, you bastard.

Debatable. Her two albums aren't THAT good.

Besides, she's now more well known for her self-destruction, not her music, so subby is right on the mark.

Kurt Cobain wasn't all that, either.

I liked Amy Winehouse's last 2 albums. She hasn't been around long enough for me to call her great yet. Who gives a crap about her self destruction. If crack helps her put out good albums, so be it. You're right belowner, Kurt Cobain wasn't all that either, but I don't see what he has to w/this.

You have to admit though the Hoff ended the cold war, got the Berlin Wall pulled down and ended decades of communism, freeing Eastern Europe with his singing prowess. I hardly think that's something to look down upon.

It figures you would like someone who self-detonates on a regular basis. I would have thought you'd prefer someone who takes down more innocent civilians with her shrapnel, but whatever.

Amy Winehouse may be annoying, but she really is talented.

Any talent the Hoff's had seems to have faded. I'm still scratching my head over why he's so cherished in Germany.

carmody 2009-11-01 07:30:25 PM
Amy Winehouse has talent. She just can't keep her shiat together.

JRoo 2009-11-01 08:01:58 PM
I don't care how much talent either of them have.

Whoever eats the most burgers off the floor while drunk, wins.

So Hasselhoff is ahead in my book.

Dear Jerk 2009-11-01 09:20:39 PM
It's refreshing to watch a real artist like Amy slowly self-destruct. The no-talent celebrity bums and reality-show losers who can't keep it together are a bore. The Hoff is somewhere in between, neither interesting nor annoying.

The Hypnotoad 2009-11-01 10:41:49 PM
Back to Black was a perfect storm of production, lyrics, and vocals. Great album, and she'll never be able to come close to it again.

She only has two albums. If she keeps up the shennanigans, it's unlikely to be three.

He is not "so cherished" here. The Germans might recognize him on the street, and they might ask him for an autograph. Maybe he gets fan-mail from a couple of die-hard fans.
But the times where women would get his face tattooed on their boobs are definitely over.
All that is left if you mention his name everyone remembering the good old times, and then sobering quickly at the thought of his more recently "achievements" (floorburger, anyone?).

Also, his idea that he personally sang down the Berlin Wall is considered quite delusional by the Germans. If the Reunification had an anthem, it was "Wind of Change" by the Scorpions.
"Looking for Freedom" was never more than a pop song by a one-hit-wonder.

Ah, the most recognizable song with indecipherable lyrics ever:

Bleach me In the magic I to borrow,
On a florry night,
We're the children of a sorrow cream a day
in the Wind of Change

Dude, whatever. Amy might have a trainwreck of a life but she is not limited to "15 minutes." Her music is amazing. As long as she can sing she'll be famous, I'm sure.

Neil Young's "Rocking [or was it "Rockin'"?] in the Free World" was also played incessently when the wall opened. Of course, that was just because of the chorus. The verses are all about how bad Wesern civilisation in general and the U.S. in particular are - and George H. W. Bush in even more particular even though he had only been in office for a couple of months when it was written.

By the way, was Young's mulletted drummer in the video Neil Hope from Degrassi Junior High & Degrassi High? It sure looked like him. As Stamos demonstrated in "Kokomo", being the drummer in a video does not require being the drummer in the studio.

Looking back on the whole Berlin Wall thing, I think they should have had Mellencamp play "Crumblin' Down."

IIRC, when West German television first started loosening up and allowing more than the two government-run stations, one of the first American series to be shown was Knight Rider, which, in its original context, was a pretty cool show, and it was the only show in town. So the Hoff became the most popular man on German television.
