Nope. Doesn't matter how fast it is, it still looks like a Charger.

Unless you ran over your neighbors, your Camaro isn't biatchin no matter how much HP you have.

As much as I lust after a 700-hp Camaro, my bikes are still quicker (well, academically anyway; I'm not capable of ripping off the 0-60 or 1/4mi times the testers do).

Now, give me the 1,000-hp TT option and we'll talk.

The driver, likely. The ZR1 Corvette does 0-60 in 3.4 seconds with 638hp (per the usual car rags, anyway). I don't know about the weigh on this Camaro (I only skimmed the article), but still.

Yes, you can polish a turd...they did. It is still crap in the same crap catagory as the Mustang or just about anything American built.

Common problem with US built cars- lots of HP, not the best conversion into low-end torque for fast starts. For example, the Porsche 993 911GT2 can pull a 0-60 in 3.3 seconds with 520 horsepower. 205 fewer, faster off the line. Ferrari Enzo? 3.3 seconds, 651 HP. Again, faster with less power.

To get two tonnes to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds requires 375 hp or so.

But in practice, you don't get to use the power when you're changing from first to second, and you only get the rated power when the engine's at optimum revs.

I reckon the Camaro isn't geared to optimize 0-60. They probably reckon 3.5 seconds is fast enough for the soccer-run.

I reckon it could be the six-speed, especially if it takes 3 gears to 60.

You're asking the wrong person since gearing is determined by the engineers of the vehicle being tested. My old Cooper S (6 speed) would red-line cutoff before I hit 60 in 2nd gear. That's why I bring it up. An extra shift makes a big difference when you're measuring 0-60 times.

The Camaro SS (as a base) weighs almost 3900lbs
The Corvette ZR1 weighs 3350lbs
The Enzo weighs 3000lbs
The new 911GT2 weighs 3175lbs

Besides gearing, which is super-important, what needs to be mentioned is being traction limited; it isn't so much about where the torque is, it's about whether the tires can put it to the pavement. The Porsche has 60% of the weight on the rear wheels and wears gumballs for tires.

The Camaro (production SS or the beast from the article) have much more torque than your Mini and more than likely will have taller gearing. That car should hit 60 in 2nd gear and it's 0-60 times are almost certainly limited by traction and a car that is too damn heavy. A better reflection of power is trap speeds in 1/4 mile times.

Again, I'm not arguing this, I'm only speculating on reasons why a 725hp Camaro is doing 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. My current Miata (rwd, 5 speed) with an SC and 185hp to the wheels can do this in about 6 seconds. Sometimes less if I can keep the rear end from hopping around when I launch it.

It's all a matter of weight, gearing (a big thing) and overall design. And no, the Miata wasn't designed for 1/4 mile racing, believe me. Much in the same way you wouldn't auto-X the Camaro mentioned in the article.

Doooom: /sportbikes for the lose

Unless you want to go to a trackday or try your luck at the salt flats or carve up some twisty canyon roads or, well, do anything that a sportbike was built to do. Seriously, c'mon, you can't tell me that your kick-start bike is the best bike in the world and is obviously better than all sportbikes because it has "character." Give me a break.

For the record, I currently own 4 bikes. One of them's a 21-year-old dual-sport; it's my daily rider. It has character (like a tractor). I also have an Italian bike with tons of character. Then there are the two Japanese sportbikes (one literbike, one hypersport). They have lots of character in their own way. Would I take them off road like I would the DS? No. Would I take my KLR to the track or on a long trip with my wife on the pillion? No.

Different vehicles serve different purposes, and it shows your ignorance to disclaim that one specific type of vehicle is useless because you think your own (beater) is better.
