I'll bet UA is behind all of the socks lost in the dryer too.

You'd think that with him being Canadian and forced to use `Air Canada', he'd be used to being treated like dog-sh*t. Or has UA achieved a level of douche-baggery that Air Canada could only dream of.

I've never flown Air Canada, but I have flown cattle class on Ryan Air, and I will say that Ryan Air is head and shoulders above UA in almost all areas.

This guy obviously flies enough to know that bags getting delayed is not the craziest thing to expect while flying. Especially if you show up at the airport just in time for your flight. You can run to your gate. Bags can't.

There is a $25 fee to upgrade from "Go fark yourself with a sharp stick" customer service to "Go fark yourself, but we'll give you lube" customer service. I guess he went for the former...

United Baggage Handler #1: Yo- Earl! Earl! Look at the name on this luggage! It's that United Hates Guitars guy! I'm gonna open it up and take a shiat in it.
United Baggage Handler #2: Don't do that, Frank- everybody knows you had corn for lunch!
UBH#1: Damn. Good thing you remembered. OK then, what should we do with it.
UBH#2: See that dumpster over there, the one marked "explosive contraband and fragile musical instruments?" It's heading over to the shredder in about 20min. Chuck it in there.
UBH#1: Alllllrighty then. 86'd One set of luggage.
(High-fives all around. Fini)

No kidding. It sounds like he was going on a speaking engagement. That's what, 2-3 days, tops? If you aren't planning on being somewhere for more than 4 days, you don't need to check anything.

Rapmaster2000 2009-10-30 10:04:31 AM
Is this more about UA or about the atrocious Denver baggage system which was built on an Indian burial ground... or so I've heard.

7of7 [TotalFark] 2009-10-30 10:04:38 AM
SpinStopper: Why?

It's his fault his guitar was broken yet he whined like a biatch to the internet to get the company to pay for it. He's like those people who return gallons of milk to Home Depot and make such a scene that the managers pay them $4 just to get them to go away.

Son, there are only a few certainties in life but one of them is NEVER bet against an American or American company in a douchebag contest.

The are only a few things this once-proud nation still leads the world in; but advanced douchebaggery and general prickishness are WAY up top that list.

ihatedumbpeople 2009-10-30 10:09:19 AM

Bet they lost his stuff on purpose. Was it covered in baggage tosser urine?

Strangely enough, the first time an airline lost one of my bags was literally a week after commenting on Fark how I've never had my bags lost.

Not only should we allow companies to ream us daily, we shouldn't even COMPLAIN.

Because that would be disrespectful and whiny.

Get real. I go to conferences and speaking engagements all the time, and if it's more than a day you need toiletries, another suit, probably a casual outfit (unless you want to wear your suit 16 hours straight)... it adds up. You can't fit a suit in a laptop bag.

I mean, it's a *small bag* that I check. But it's big enough not to fit into the baggage sizing cage, and I never travel more than a couple of days.

There's always WestJet. The main difference between the airlines I saw was that the flight attendants on WestJet actually seemed happy. Not so much on AC.

Then you're a shiatty packer.

I go on week-long business trips all the time and I never check my bag. You can easily fit a week's worth of business clothes in a small rolling suitcase that can fit in the overhead compartment.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone use a sizing cage before. Except maybe to throw some trash into.

Admittedly I don't know all of the facts about the case, but how was it his fault?

cenobyte40k 2009-10-30 11:04:22 AM
lexnaturalis,

Just because you wear the same shirt/pants/socks/underwear three days in a row doesn't mean the rest of us want to. I wonder what you do when you are going somewhere for a week? Same thing, just live in whatever you where wearing when you get on the plane until you get home?
Oh I bet I know. You are one of those people that carry on the oversized bag (That takes up to much space in the overhead) a huge backpack (that doesn't fit under the seat) and a purse the size of a small third world country. Then it takes you 20 minutes to get off the plane while the rest of us have to wait for you to get your crap together.
I guess you could be someone that gets to do business in flipflops, t-shirt and shorts, don't need a computer and just lives off the bath supplies the hotel provides, but lots of us work in the corp world and all that crap just doesn't fit.

Wait, you're serious?

Extra suits and changes of clothes/toiletries? Possibly a musical instrument, since the guy is a musician by profession? Or maybe he was (as is allowed by federal regulations) traveling with a firearm and had to check it. WTF do you know?

Hell, I frequently travel for short (2-3 day engagements) and check a large piece of luggage. I travel for athletic competitions and have to bring my gear, and it sure as hell isn't going to fit in the overhead bin. Or maybe I'm just a "sh*tty packer" too.

Northwest is a bigger shiatpile than United. And not because of the recent pilot issues, but for more like the last 6 years.

What the monkey fark are you talking about? The handlers were THROWING his guitar around.

I guess if I punch you in the face it's your fault for enticing me. Maybe that's your angle...

7of7 [TotalFark] 2009-10-30 11:12:23 AM
GavinTheAlmighty:how was it his fault?

As far as I can tell United doesn't offer any guarantee that your guitar won't be smashed if you give it to them yet he checked his guitar anyway. If I gave a baby a Faberge egg and then the baby smashed the egg it would be my fault, not the baby's.

Does anybody know if we as using an ATA case for his guitar when he traveled? If not, he's a dumbass and deserves to get his guitar broken. If the ramprats somehow broke the guitar through an ATA case, well that is a whole other argument.

Hyaku-Shiki: You guys are absolutely right. Why should I expect my luggage to be in one piece or even get to my destination?

The only time I expect my luggage to arrive in one piece is if I start out with two or more.
