Office Depot has the worst hold music of all time....OF ALL TIME!!!

I almost worked for them, but the manager kept sitting on his ass and postponing my hire date after I had been through the interview and paperwork. I am not bashing the company. I have no bad experiences. Bought my laptop from them. But their hold music....its just like 3 piano chords playing in fast succession over and over and over...

i know a guy who was laid off from office depot after 14 years pretty much strictly because his wife was diagnosed with leukemia, so, i think it couldn't have happened to a nicer office supply store.

Wait. He was laid off because of the insurance, or because of attendance.

What was the reason they gave when they fired him? Had to have been something else they said.

I knew a guy at another retailer I worked at who got pneumonia. He was in the hospital. For 2 days before he went in, he was at work, looked like crap. It was evident he was ill. He was in the hospital for 3 days.

He came back, ready to work. He had no note. They wrote him up for not calling in sick OR having a note.

He said fark you and quit.

Office depot is kinda pricey, anyways. Their loss is the standard laws of business in action..

A company I used to work for used Office Depot as their sole supplier, even though there wasn't an Office Depot in the state. I can only guess Office Depot had a big nationwide contract with them, as they probably do with other companies. So when companies fail, so does Office Depot.

They're the shiattiest office supply store out there.

Staples is --by far-- the best of the chain stores.

They seem to have a pattern of operations that may have helped them get here.

Depot State Contract Watch (pops)

Office Depot has become a corporate persona non grata in many government agencies.

Horrible horrible company. Their board of directors is beyond incompetent, I can only assume the only reason they haven't been acquired during their long term implosion is because the entire corporate body of the company is so inept and dysfunctional that it is not worth it.

I guess that's why you don't put your HQ in Florida, you'll only export that state of dysfunction.

We have an OfficeDepot, OfficeMax and a Staples within a couple of miles of each other. Staples has a jazzy new building that's a PITA to get to but is always busy. OfficeMax is in a shared strip with a Dick's Sporting goods and an empty Circuit City and seems to go ok. OfficeDepot is in a dead mall center that it shares with a Big Lots. OD is filty, most of the lights are burned out and it looks like their idea of stocking is to drag a pallet of goods out into an aisle then open the box. Despite it being easy to get to and near everything it's always empty.

Just started working there two weeks ago. :/

All my managers are nice though and our store is actually very clean and well organized. So far so good I suppose.

FTFA: Office Depot posted an operating profit of $35 million in its third quarter, compared with $12 million in the same quarter a year ago.

How do they get from an operating profit to a loss of $413 million? Article doesn't give you a clue.

They only closed 17 stores, so it much be leveraged financing that puts them in the hole.

Office Max and Office Depot seem to be having a war around here by simply opening more stores. There are now 6 of these stores within a 15 minute drive of me. This won't end well.

I used to do help desk for those customers who bought their computers at Office Depot.

those jackoffs would insist that their customers bought extended warranties, and then not honor the warranty by having ME cite the 'fine print'. the customer would find out they dumped 1 to 200 bucks down the Office Depot money drain.

typical American piece of shhhittt company. Lie and cheat your customers, and hope they'll come back for more ass good ole' american style ass reaming.

frkkkk Office Depot and everything they stand for: Greed, arrogance, and cheating.

i hope they go out of business for good.

the customer would never see the 'fine print' unless they specifically asked for it. Office Depot brass Turds that most folks would forget to ask for it, especially when they've just plopped down 1500 or 2000 on a laptop. cleaver bunch those Turds are.

Wall street would be proud of their shell game.

in America, the LARGE PRINT giveth and the fine print taketh away.

I'd say that most likely they have significant losses from discontinued operations and extraordinary losses, both of which are taken out after operating income.

There are still Office Depots around?

We used to have a bunch all over southern Ontario, but the majority disappeared near then end of 2006. You know, when the economy didn't suck.

I just bought a laser printer online from them last year. It cost $40 less than Staples, plus they shipped same day and it arrived next morning (a saturday no less), for free.

Office Depot opened a shiatton of new stores 4 or 5 years ago in the Philly area when Kids R-Us closed up all their stores. They all shut down last year, I believe, except for a small handful. Never found anything appealing about them except when I was able to get an all-in-one HP printer for $30 bucks since I would always use my OfficeMax coupons there. Stores were always empty. Staples dominates here with much more nicer stores and lower prices, with OfficeMax who has been established in certain areas for years and years. But realistically, there are too many of them. I can pick up paper clips and pens at any ol' store. With a declining amount of business buying shiat, I am betting they will liquidate after Christmas.

I know a guy that works in their HR "dysfunction" is too soft a word. How does that meme go... Yo I heard you like some Florida in your Florida so I put some OD in your Florida. Okay I can't do it but you get it.

No. I called Soyo USA about a motherboard of theirs that I bought and their hold music was ~2000 era pop music.... N'sync, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears..... Horrible. To this day I refuse to by anything from Soyo for that reason.

This.

When your entire business model is based on other corporations' waste and excess, you're going to have problems during a recession.

Remind me to add "check the type of hold music on company's support line" as a criteria for doing business. It might even be relevant.
