Really? Sounds to me like the manufacturer wanted some "nudge nudge wink wink" easy free press and Biden was kind enough to oblige in exchange for getting to use the factory as a poster child for energy and climate reform.

But the article is chock-full of evidence to support the claim that what Biden did was "inadvertent."

The fact that the CEO simply laughed the comment off seems to support this theory. If it had been truly damaging, I'm sure the guy wouldn't have been so good-humored about it.

Also, in the linked video, Fisker says that he already has 45 dealerships lined up to sell the Nina. Obviously, those dealership owners knew about it, so it's not like this was a huge secret.

Nah. I think it's part of an ongoing effort to reduce the workload of Obama's Secret Service detail.

================================

Seriously, though-- I hope the plug-in hybrid market does well. But I fear the cars are too damn expensive (even with all the tax incentives) and gas is too damn cheap.

Too bad raising gas taxes is politically impossible. It would hurt like hell for everybody, but I think $4/gallon gas-- phased in as the economy improves-- would be very good for the U.S. in the long term.

Use the money to fund public transportation and further subsidize the cost of plug in hybrids. The cars should get cheaper over time, just like almost all other mass-produced items.

I agree with this, in theory, but the United States does not lend itself to a mass transit area the way other countries do. I take public transit every day, but if I moved a few miles in any direction, that would be difficult to impossible.

I guess the lower amount of emissions coming out of passenger cars helps, but it's really the big fleet vehicles billowing raw carbon out of their twin stacks and the factories spewing filth into the air that are the problem. But regulation makes Zombie Reagan cry.

Yeah, the U.S. has some unique challenges, but you gotta admit we could be doing a LOT to improve things while still keeping public transportation limited to a practical scale.

Gee, he tipped his hand, and accidentally announced that a car manufacturer would be producing a full line of vehicles instead of just one...thereby giving a startup company a little high-profile free publicity for what looks to be a quality product that will reduce our dependence on foreign oil and help temper pollution. Way to string him up, Fox "News." What a criminal. Exactly. But the cons don't want to discuss why he's not prosecuting war criminals, closing Guantanamo, repealing DADT or telling Congressional Republicans to shut the fark up, they're criticizing because he's taking time to consider what to do in Afghanistan, or you know, his socialist mustard.

Ditto. Whenever I see crap like this, I just file it under, "Is that the best you can do?"

Don't get me wrong...Obama's far from perfect. I wish he'd put some starch in his spine on health care, get us the hell out of the Middle East and make good on more of his campaign promises concerning equal rights for homo-Americans, but what'cha gonna do?

I guess it just never fails to make me nuts that he and other Democrats are more concerned with being seen as better, more co-operative people than the other side of the aisle was when THEY had all the cards. It's the one thing I wish they'd work LESS hard at, being as there's not a chance in hell they'll EVER come anywhere REMOTELY close to being the travishamockery their predecessors were. I actually don't think that's even POSSIBLE, given commonly-accepted laws of physics.

While I wish there was more progress being made, I'll still take a scattered platform of well-meaning do-goodery over a focused agenda of evil any day of the week.

He definitely told what our product plans are," Fisker laughed, adding that all of his company's cars are being developed from the start with at least three derivatives in mind.

And then reading the interview from there, Fisker went on from there to "accidentally" divulge more secrets?

I think Pocket Ninja took care of all of the relevant work here.

It's easier to control the factors from one power plant feeding hundreds of thousands of homes then it is hundreds of thousands of individual little engines of varying levels of efficiency and care.

It means the dealerships knew about the Nina. The article is talking about the blabbing about the coupe and the crossover.
Fisker, which is in the process of purchasing the plant, previously said only that it was developing the sedan, to be priced at around $40,000 after state and federal tax credits are taken into account.

centralized power generation allows better emissions controls.

or you could use power generators that at most emit water vapor and need a geologically stable location to safely store byproducts for a few thousand years (nuclear)

or you could use entirely clean sources (wind, SOLAR, hydro).

I completely missed the "above the law" "not part of the executive branch" and "man-sized safe" comments whenever they were originally said. Assuming you're right (nothing personal. It's the internet), WHY ISN'T THIS FARK ON TRIAL?

Honestly, Bush Jr. pissed away all our foreign good-will. I think we could restore our image if we prosecuted our war criminals. Yes, it'll bring some of our dirty laundry out into the public eye and hurt our morale a bit. But it'll make us better as a nation if we set this as a precedent. I love this country, which means that when we make a mistake I want to see it corrected so that we can move on to our full potential. Loving this country does not mean whargarbling every time you say something that I don't want to hear.

You've convinced me. Hummer H1 it is. *eyeroll*

How many plug-in cars are out there today? I'm in the market for a new one (my 8 year old Toyota isn't gonna last forever), and I'd prefer a Ford - whatcha got? Oh, this is a vehicle scheduled for a 2014-6 release? Kindly STFU.

Yeah, straining the grid isn't a good thing, but I'd rather have my car run from power generation sources other than gasoline. If we relied more on solar, wind and nuclear for our power plants, we wouldn't have to worry about overstraining the grid (since our sources are more varied and produce more per cycle), wouldn't have to worry about contributing to regimes dead-set against US/"Western" influence, wouldn't have to worry (as much) about dirty energy.
