He should have done it like an American, just drive in front of the nearest asshole with a smaller car than you and stomp your brakes. When the police ask simply say that the person in front of you stomped their brakes, and then sped off. Give a fake license plate number if you want.

He was driving the car that his "customer" wanted to total and pretending to be that person on the paperwork, so it would have been a different name, insurance policy and company every time.

I don't know about the states, but he'd need to actually see a doctor to file a claim. You can't just say "oh it cost $10000 to get my back worked on." and then they hand over the cash gladly.

Also, because it's no fault in Ontario you can't sue the other driver.

I'm a little confused by the writer's point about the costs being passed on t o insurance consumers making this theft instead of fraud.

Do all costs that are passed on to consumers become theft, or only costs that aren't offset by business expenses? Is the insurance company's profit also considered theft? If someone overcharges the insurance company for office space, and they pass that cost on to their consumers, is that theft?

Has anyone ever had their insurance premium reduced due to a decline in fraud costs?
