If toe food the same as putting your foot in your mouth, then I've eaten a lot of the stuff.

Nightsweat 2003-03-14 05:42:59 PM
Mmmmm... tofu. Soy delicious.

nunchaku_nc 2003-03-14 05:44:01 PM
beef, pigfat, chitlins....

=fauxfu

wil [TotalFark] 2003-03-14 05:45:19 PM
Hey, I've got your free beef right here.

DannySpaz 2003-03-14 05:45:41 PM

i love beef.......having steak tonight.

AerialP 2003-03-14 05:46:00 PM
When someone says "Soy", I say "Oh Boy!!!!".
Just think: the Earth can support many many more Asians eating soy and rice and riding bicycles than it can Americans eating hamburgers and driving automobiles.

skiinstructor 2003-03-14 05:47:29 PM
tofu looks like something that should be coming out of
my body, not going into it. talk to me when there's a
free beer giveaway.

SYMDave 2003-03-14 05:47:37 PM
HaHa! I live in Eugene, and I laughed my farkin ass off when I first saw this commercial.

Bunch-o-hippies and veggies live in this town. The "We won't eat anything with a face" crowd.

Funny to see this on Fark.

Demetrius [TotalFark] 2003-03-14 05:47:40 PM
To fu? To Wong Fu?

Yoshi 2003-03-14 05:53:01 PM
I also live in Eugene. It would be funny if it wasn't for the fact that people really go in to get a bike tire and tofu.

Neo: "Whoa I know Tofu?"

dcho 2003-03-14 05:54:15 PM
"Free tofu give-away not nearly as popular as free beef give-away"

Of course not. And it won't be for as long as the average American is a fat, ignorant slob with a coronary system that's about to explode. "Hey y'all, I eats beef! That makes me a tough guy! I must be better than thems that eats to-fer, 'cause that's hippie food. And hippies be unAmerican, and being unAmerican be wrong, dagnabit!"

PowerSlacker 2003-03-14 05:56:17 PM
Les Schwab 0wnz j00!

That is all.

Tybalt 2003-03-14 05:59:18 PM
Dcho, believe me, the rest of us Canadians don't like you hippies either.

Lord_Dubu 2003-03-14 06:03:31 PM
Dubu is the korean word for tofu.

micah476 2003-03-14 06:04:18 PM
Tofu may be better for you than beef in the long run...but they'll never engineer a tofu or soy based product that will taste like a steak...ever. Still, we'll all have to switch over to that sort of diet eventually, assuming that our population keeps exploding at the current rate...I'm just glad I was born early enough to pound some serious red meat before all that shiat happens.

RaoulDuke 2003-03-14 06:05:44 PM
watch out Wil, someone just might try to take you up on that offer...

in other news, fried tofu ROCKS!

udo 2003-03-14 06:06:08 PM
Of course not. And it won't be for as long as the average American is a fat, ignorant slob with a coronary system that's about to explode.

We didn't work our way to the top of the food chain just to eat tofu, did we?

/married to a vegan 5 years.

Thwack 2003-03-14 06:06:19 PM
Ya know what Dcho, I've spent some time in Canadia and y'all Canucks aren't that much different healthwise.

Farkin' Tim Horton's every block, plenty of fast food and pizza, "Blue" steaks.

So I guess by "Americans" you mean "North Americans", right?

bosaiya 2003-03-14 06:11:35 PM
that's funny I thought all Canadians were hippies

I'm hungry now!

WhereMyHatIsAt 2003-03-14 06:15:41 PM
anyone know if this meat is contaminated???

Bizzerk 2003-03-14 06:16:42 PM
Now there's a shocker...

Lalalala 2003-03-14 06:17:44 PM
Just tell me when they have a free beef jerky give-away. Mmm.

And yes, Canadians are almost as fat as Americans. But Americans are fatter because they always have to be the best or worst at something. Damn yanks.

andonbray 2003-03-14 06:21:21 PM
I buy tofu all the time. I have an iguana that loves it.

MaskimXuul 2003-03-14 06:26:18 PM
Overpopulation does not equal tofu diet.

"Donner party? Your table is ready..."

;)

Bumjube 2003-03-14 06:31:49 PM
Tofu?

I'd rather masturbate with a cheese grater.

andonbray 2003-03-14 06:33:08 PM
Bumjube - And still, the thought of you doing that turns me on.

RaoulDuke 2003-03-14 06:34:20 PM

TheCharlie 2003-03-14 06:34:58 PM
I like it in my miso soup.

Bumjube 2003-03-14 06:35:30 PM
Andonbray:

You're a sick individual.

I like that.

Pope_Urban 2003-03-14 06:39:58 PM
Les Schwab rules. If you're not from the Pacific Northwest you'll have no idea what a joy it is to buy tires from them.

Anti_Freak_Machine [TotalFark] 2003-03-14 06:39:59 PM
Eating tofu is like eating wind biscuits smothered in air gravy.

StephenFalken 2003-03-14 06:46:44 PM
Isn't today international steak & a blow job day? see http://www.geocities.com/steakandbj/

Interestingly enough, tomorrow is EAT MEAT FOR PETA DAY
see http://www.yourish.com/archives/2003/feb23-mar1_2003.html#2003030102

EnnuiEmpire 2003-03-14 06:48:16 PM
Dangit! I need some bike tires & tofu...why can't they do this kind of cool stuff here?
Meat just happens to be one of my least favorite poisons, so I don't partake and I don't miss it. I'm just pissed off that I can't have it my way and order a combo meal consisting of cap'n morgan, cheese, and cancer sticks yet.

Freschel 2003-03-14 06:50:02 PM
Raoulduke: So that's what a $41 burger looks like. Mmmm kobe.

TenDeuChen 2003-03-14 06:56:06 PM
tofu is pretty good depending on how it's made...I like Tempeh better though...

AerialP 2003-03-14 06:57:36 PM
is a wind biscuit anything like a rooty-toot?

Anti_Freak_Machine [TotalFark] 2003-03-14 07:13:21 PM
AerialP I don't know, whats a rooty toot?

*holds open empty hand*- This is a wind biscuit.

Nanookanano 2003-03-14 07:16:24 PM
What do you want for free?
Rrrrrubber biscuit?

andonbray 2003-03-14 07:20:01 PM
Bow bow bow!

PAgent 2003-03-14 07:24:05 PM
I used to live in Eugene, and shopped at Paul's Bicycle Way of Life often (the one on Alder). Good shop. I'm always impressed by a mechanic (of any type) that will talk you out of getting some expensive work done because you really don't need it.

I love Les Schwab. When you pull in the parking lot, someone runs out to ask what you need. The short hair and no beard requirement may be a bit fascist, but you have to love the attitude. They do a lot of free service, too, EVEN ON TIRES YOU GOT SOMEWHERE ELSE. When I pointed out that I hadn't bought the front tires at Schwab's, the mechanic grinned and said "That's OK. We're pretty sure you'll come back here." No kidding. Between the service and the warranty I don't get tires anywhere else.

BTW: Has anyone else read the Les Schwab history "Pride in Performance":

"The success of any company is in direct proportion to the ability and motivation of its people, and that fits anything. The success of any school, community, country, business, church, family...anything, is in direct proportion to the ability and motivation of its people. In my mind there's absolutely no substitute for the good, old fashioned American competitive drive. The desire to do the job better, the desire to better yourself...to get ahead, to do more for your family, to be successful. Color it any way you wish, I believe that nothing will ever take the place of initiative, incentive, inspiration, and perspiration. I am quick to admit that business people make many mistakes, the largest being greed, the lack of foresight to believe in "unselfish for good reasons", and the lack of desire to see that all employees are successful employees. I believe the tide is turning for the good in America. I believe that young people can play a big part in this change for the good. I believe that if more people cared, and if more people shared, and if more people used "common sense," then we could all help create an even better company and an even better America."

Fried tofu with soy sauce...mmmm.

Kurohone 2003-03-14 07:58:06 PM
When I was younger and foolish and not living in Asia, oh how I scorned tofu. I was (and msotly still am) a confirmed anti-vegitarian...I was the kid who didn't eat his vegetables, save potatoes, and perhaps some mashed turnip at Christmas...meat, grains, pasta all the way. Oh how I scorned tofu.

And then I moved to Japan. And I learned better. Tofu is truly a wonderful food when properly prepared...and there are a multitude of ways to do so. Fried, served with udon, or in soup? Yum! Cubed into a big block, covered with a dark, heavy sauce and green onion. Excellent! As a cold, shivering blob (zarudofu) whih you can sprinkle with salt, chives, or little tiny fish? Devine. But the best...was a huge block of yellow tofu, skewered and barbecued. Amazing.

Nanookanano 2003-03-14 08:33:16 PM
Plain tofu has little more flavor than egg whites. But, it soaks up the flavor of whatever it's prepared in. When correctly prepared, tofu can satisfy the craving for the umame flavor. Grilled portobello mushroom caps are another good vegan alternative that fulfills that craving.

indarknesstogether 2003-03-14 09:06:07 PM

Nanookanano: I can do things to portabello mushrooms that are so good they're banned by the Vatican.

ZenMommy 2003-03-14 09:09:28 PM
They left out the best part of the story. The tofu they give away is Surata Tofu, which is part owned by my dad. When they ran the article in the Register Guard (the local rag) he had a quote actually explaining how they make tofu. What a rip, everyone else got free advertising except the tofu guys.

ExplodingFish 2003-03-14 09:12:38 PM
Wow.. I've seen this commercial a lot. Oregon's ON THE MAP, BABY!

Nanookanano 2003-03-14 09:14:43 PM
I'm more of a black beans kind of guy, myself.
I'm not vegan, I'm a fish-and-dairy.
But, I find it sad that so many people think only meat has that wonderful umame flavor.

ceebee 2003-03-14 09:29:24 PM
hmmm, all the vegetarian diet info i've seen and heard, recommend taking vitamin supplements (in pill form) to ward off anemia(and a few other things i can't recall) doesn't seem very healthy...

WORLDDOMINATIONISMYGOAL 2003-03-14 10:04:44 PM
One time i got it on with a vegan chick

Black bean on condom kinda killed the moment

Why is it that the "average, non-hairwashing, birkenstock sandal wearing, with dirty-nasty feet" veggies insist on forcing their lifestyle on others?

Intolerant veggies get on my nerveshiatler was a bad guy
Hitler was a 'fascist'
Hitler was a vegiterian
All vegiterains are 'fascist' and bad guys!

Dont be like Hitler
Eat a nice juicy steak for dinner like i did tonight

andreas 2003-03-14 10:23:36 PM
The way these assholes compare meat eating to the holocaust is just flat out sick.

And, besides... I'm all for cooking up a nice steak.
:)

For the record, I'm not going to email them... because I long ago realized that PETA are a hopeless bunch who choose to fight closed-minded insanity by being completely closed-minded and insane....

Oh, and yes... I've eaten vegetarian... and I've eaten vegan.... and I like tofu... and I like seitan.... and I like tempeh..... but, like a sane person, I'm all about eating what I like... not what some psycho group tells me to eat.

That is all.. for now. ;)
