It's better to be accurate than first.

But it's more fun to get the Boobies.

Web 3.0 will be all about editing.

The second generation of Web publishing is defined by user participation, but Fark founder Drew Curtis believes that users expect higher-quality content than they get now. Time is too precious to wade through oceans of information, so they want "curated" content.

Journalists can reach savvy, next-generation news consumers by finding the most interesting, engaging stories and giving them crisp, exciting headlines. The loyalty of these news consumers will be based on quality and specificity.

The admins repeating the same stories 2-3 times a day helps keep the information fresh in front of the reader's eyes as well.

3.0?

Meh.

I still don't see this whole 2.0 everyone was talking about.

Pixelvision 2009-09-19 12:05:06 PM
web 3.0 is where you can actually send real, physical crap to people over the internet. Web 2.0 only allows it when it's typed in to the browser.

malle-herbert 2009-09-19 12:09:05 PM
You mean like punch people in the face over standard TCPIP ?

moothemagiccow 2009-09-19 12:22:03 PM

Courtney Cox-Zucker [TotalFark] 2009-09-19 01:51:36 PM

Aeonite [TotalFark] 2009-09-19 01:52:32 PM
There is no Web 3.0. There is no Web 2.0. There is only Web plus more teenagers with cellphone cameras.

malle-herbert 2009-09-19 01:57:42 PM
Why don't they just call it web-SP3 ?

Good Behavior Day 2009-09-19 04:14:49 PM
I always thought Web 1.0 was getting the info out there; Usenet and AOL.

Web 2.0 was were everyone tried to make money off the web; eBay and Amazon.

Web 3.0 was the social networking; MySpace and Facebook.

Web 3.0... it is all about JS errors whenever you touch the mousewheel. Nice website!

Dr. Poison 2009-09-19 05:43:42 PM
Hell, I'm using Web 4.2 already. 3.0 was big back in the 1900s. Get with it people!

An this is part of the problem. Everyone has their own definition for this crap, to the point where the terms don't mean anything any more. If they ever did in the first place.

Enfenestrate [TotalFark] 2009-09-19 06:46:51 PM
Oh, wait, I've found it:

"People keep asking what Web 3.0 is. I think maybe when you've got an overlay of scalable vector graphics - everything rippling and folding and looking misty - on Web 2.0 and access to a semantic Web integrated across a huge space of data, you'll have access to an unbelievable data resource."

Thank you Tim Berners-Lee for clarifying things

imfallen_angel 2009-09-19 07:47:45 PM
I'm looking forward to web 6.0 as seen in Logan's Run.

I know not what weapons World Wide Web 3.0 will be fought with, but I know this: World Wide Web 4.0 will be fought with sticks and stones.

Timdesuyo 2009-09-19 10:35:36 PM
I was interested to see the bit about ethics at the end. Does this mean that all the people questioning if Glen Beck raped and murdered a woman in the 1990s are operating in a questionable area of ethical behavior?

rbaron71 [TotalFark] 2009-09-20 09:28:10 AM
Hey guys, I'm starting Web 4.0. Who wants in?
