I have gone to *one* gaming convention in my life. It was a pretty, um, interesting place.

God I just about fell out my chair laughing at this line. I was party hopping last night at the beach and I walked past the biggest dork party I had ever seen and they were BLASTING They Might Be Giants music, then I read this. I actually went over to talk to those guys apparently they were celebrating because one of them lost their virginity or it was his birthday or something. Anyway I left quick because it was a real "sausage fest". My point is They Might Be Giants is the BIGGEST dork band ever. That is why I am seeing them next week in L.A. with my dork friend...

I am a dork too by the way... I haven't had sex for 6 months... unless you count the jailbait.

Just for the record, I got laid at Dragoncon.

Well you also offer to put their name in a book or something like that to. There are quite a few signature characters based off of people known by the writer in life. One of the signature sabbat characters was based on a girl that the developer really had a thing for. I had one girl give me the translation of a concept that I wanted in greek... so I snuck her name in the book as a thank you note. Some people are really itching for their 15 minutes of fame and don't care where that fame comes from.

The real feat is getting laid while listening to They Might Be Giants. I takes skill, charm, and booze.

I've never been to a comic book convention, as I'm not a fan of them, or Dungeons and Dragons, or most other "dorky" things. My appearance would enable me to blend in with them, though, and I'm so ashamed of it I must listen to Slipknot and make fun of fat people to hide my geeky veneer.

I am an absolute comic geek (Preacher + Hellblazer esp), unfortunately. Also a Quentin Tarantino and Kevin Smith geek, and a movie geek in general. I obviously very nearly came when I saw the opening credits for Mallrats and Chasing Amy.

I say we take up a collection to help get this guy laid.

Lets get one thing straight here. There is a difference between Geeks and Dorks. I am not just sure what it is, or what I am for that matter. I do get laid though.

Geeks are people who know a lot about some specialized topic. There are techie geeks and theatre geeks and cooking geeks and TV geeks and bilby geeks and so on.

Dorks are the geeks who make the mistake of talking to everyone about their topic in an effort to get laid by anyone.

Nerds, on the other hand, are just people who put as much effort into maintaining that 4.0 average as non-nerds do into getting laid.

Jeez, people - you just don't go to these things following the right guidelines! The trick is to recognize you're essentially going to a 'Weirdo Country Safari'. Avoid to pompous speakers; start with 2 hours in the bar, self-medicating. Then go out amoungst Them.

"Wow! Nice Costume - is that chainmail made out of soda pop-tops? I thought so... link them yourself, did you? Oh - at lunch, at work... It looks good!" Mingle. Question. Anytime sanity starts to slip, it's back to the bar again.

I have seen SCA'ers and the SF geeks roleplay off each other, and get pissed at how stupid the other group is. I have seen a 60 year old granny with a hotel staff badge chase off 5 Klingon Warriors. I have seen drunken fistfights start over questions of cold-mixing matter-antimatter, while a group grope of a half naked human weather balloon went on in the corner. I have seen the boardwalk hookers come into the ballroom to dance with the desperate 2AM Manchildren in their starfleet uniforms...

When I die, all of these things will die with me... gone... like tears in the rain...
