Kelly can be a guy's name too.

My first husband's name was Kelley. It was quite funny how many people jumped to the conclusion that I was a lesbian when I talked about who I was dating. The extra "e" makes the name masculine (at least in the tradition of Beverley, Shelley, Ashley, Tracey, Stacey, all of which could be men's names in the South).

tekjock: is it me or do they look to much alike ... GET A BLOOD TEST. I think we are about to see a Luke/Leia situation here.

You sound like my asian mother. She thinks all white people look alike.

Kinda interesting cause it's normally the other way around.

I have the same last name but without the d and the end. Everyone always misspells it with that second d though.

Also, dating a girl named Samantha but everyone calls Sam so people often think I'm teh ghey.

What they did was nice, but purposfully making your first and last names the same (new window) takes devotion.

My dad's parents were Ray and Rae. I wish they were still around; I'd ask them if it ever caused confusion. They sort of predated telemarketers, though, so it's not like there were a ton of strangers calling and asking for one by pronunciation.

My wife and I share the same middle name, which works out well -- good for a story, but not enough to cause trouble.

There's a guy out there with the same name as me. I hate the mother-f****. He's some dentist that goes into the Amazon and fixes the teeth of indigenous tribesmen. Frakkin' hero trying to make me look bad.

The couple began poring over their respective family trees, after going back 250 years and finding no common ancestors, knew they were good to go toward a trip down the aisle.

WTF? They have access to 250 years of family trees, but not a DNA test?

My best friend is Persian, and she says the same thing about white people. Then again, she is damn near blind as a bat, so that may have something to do with it...

My last name is very common. If I end up with someone who has the same last name as me, it wouldn't matter to me. In a way I think that would be pretty cool because I wouldn't have to go through all the hell to change it.

Marrying a Hildebrandt carries an extra bonus for Kelly girl's family. Her father is the last male Hildebrandt on his side of the family, and now his daughter Kelly's marriage affords the chance the family name will be carried on.

So pops, you're down with some male relative porking your daughter to carry on 'the name'? Nasty.

That's the stupidest reason I've ever heard of for obvious nth cousins to marry. Just because you're 'the last' in your immediate family does not mean you're 'the last' in the extended family. And who gives a damn about last names anyway? This is America -- not everybody is whom they believe themselves to be. It's all bullshiat. Besides, if the name is that unusual..... they're related.

Hi, dude. The problem is, they did no such thing. Already been brought up; the only thing the article says is,

"The couple began poring over their respective family trees, after going back 250 years and finding no common ancestors, knew they were good to go toward a trip down the aisle."

If they DID have a blood test, then MSNBC and writer Michael Dunbar are trolling through selective reporting to make the news 'sexier'. Fark both of tem (MSNBC and Dunbar) if that's the case.

Besides, why stop at 250 years ago? That's nothing, when folks can trace their families back to some duke's illegitimate progeny all the fracking time. I wonder, did they find out they had a common ancestor 251 years ago and it was long enough ago to say 'ancient history'? Again, is MSNBC and Dunbar trolling with this article?

Snakeophelia: Kelly can be a guy's name too.

Interestingly, some of these names started out as men's names; I know Kelly, Ashley, and Stacy did, and I think the others may have as well.

cute story, cute couple. Reminds me of something saw in a company nesletter in the 90's, two unrelated people named MacDonald got married.. but the girl insisted on having her last name hyphenated, "MacDonald-MacDonald" Guess she was just determined to have a hyphenated last name.

I had a male teacher in High School whose name was 'Beverly'.

It is an odd trend that male names will be appropriated to female names, but the reverse does not happen.
