Raspil: i will NEVER understand how someone can mistake the gas for the brake.

OK, I'm going to put myself out here. I made that mistake once, after my ex-girlfriend and I had a big blowout right before she left for work. I had to move my car, since it was behind hers in the garage, so she could leave. I was so farking pissed at her that I put the car in drive and started to "back up". Realizing my mistake I took my foot off the gas and went to break hard, but never actually moved my foot and crashed into the garage gate. Dumbest thing I've ever done driving, but I would have killed someone if they were in front of me. All cause I let the biatche get to me.

How difficult is it to report news? Besides not identifying anybody here are the reports of the child's age and condition, source:

9 years old, not injured (Fox Houston)
8 years old, trapped under car (KUTX)
6 years old, seriously injured (Houston Chronicle)
6 years old, hospitalized, no condition given (tex cable)
6 years old, hospitalized, serious/stable condition (KHOU)

How difficult is it to report news? Besides not identifying anybody here are the descriptions of the driver:

60 years old, a recent immigrant, new driver confused by instructions of his son-in-law. (KIAH)

49 years old, driver with a recent driver license, was the husband of one victim he was driving with his father-in-law, who is the father and husband of the victims. (KWTX)

Who was driving the car?

Probably after contracting bird flu. He became confused and attempted to fly across the river instead of walking over the bridge.

Enuratique: The women who were killed, ages 66 and 41, had been cooking a meal in the two-car garage when the driver returned from a driver's license office with his father-in-law, a passenger in the car.

Awkward!

Awkward? He's probably the one that jerked the wheel.

Your shrew wife and her biatchy mother and standing in front of you. How can you not confuse the two?

Yeah? It was also an accident when I accidentally nailed my wife in the head with a hammer...

/Should I be saying this in a public blog?

About as stupid. Why does Houston love stupid car murders?

There are smart car murders?

It sure as hell wasn't an accident when I nailed your wife shortly before that!

I will be following this case closely to see if this defense works.

....For the sake of curiosity only, of course.

I'll never understand the gas/brake thing. Same situation with the Weinermobile yesterday.

Gas-right, brake-left. Has been on every vehicle I've ever driven. And don't these people have reaction times under 5 seconds? Heck, I'll periodically 'pull through' in parking lots if it's not busy so I can pull straight out. Every now and then I'll shift into reverse out of basic habit and touch the gas. i near instantaneously realize I'm going the wrong way, it happens.

These people would push the car behind them for 6 blocks and kill 10 people before they realized it.

If this was intentional, the guy's a retard. All he had to do was kill his wife, and then he'd automatically be MIL-free. But no, double your pleasure, double your time.

A vehicle is like a gun, don't point it at anything you don't want to kill. Also, don't stand in front of one even if you think the person using it knows what they are doing.

That's what I was thinking... Who the fark cooks in the garage, that is weird behavior even for immigrants. In any case, that poor guy must feel horrible.

Why would someone cook in a garage? I did that for 6 months while my kitchen was being remodeled from the wall studs out. Why? Because we already had a 220V line run to the garage for the dryer.

Some vietnamese families do that for pho. It's a huge stock pot (probably about 10 gallons) cooking for about 6~8 hours. So they cook it in the garage while the kitchen is used to prep other foods.

Loren 2009-07-18 12:01:34 PM
phlegmmo: Houston police spokeswoman Jodi Silva said the driver, a recent immigrant from Vietnam, confused the brake and accelerator pedals.

If they're implying he's an incompetent driver because he was born in Southeast Asia, I'd find tet offensive.

Recent immigrant very well might mean inexperienced driver.

DigitalDirt: I have a theory about Asian drivers. The younger drivers are pretty good, it seems like the older drivers are bad.
But in Asian cultures you are supposed to respect anyone older than you, so the younger ones don't tell the older ones that they drive like crap and what to do better!
Things like, get out of fast lane when only doing 55mph, or look over your shoulder when changing lanes, or my favorite, when you do something wrong acknowledge it and wave sorry rather than stare straight ahead and pretend you didn't just do something stupid.
I lived next to Little Saigon in SoCal for 10 years so I had a lot of time to think about this.

You might very well have something there. Their automatic respect for their elders most certainly causes problems.

Yeah--I've started to go with it in first instead of reverse (driving a stick you generally leave it in gear when parking) but I don't think I've ever gone more than a few inches before slamming on the brakes. I can understand the confusion, what I don't see is how people get into serious accidents this way unless they are inexperienced drivers. Trouble = automatic foot-to-brake reaction!

Maul555 2009-07-18 12:38:48 PM
alright then. Who tries to drive a car into the garage while someone is cooking in it? And don't give me that 2 car garage excuse, they where directly in the parking path apparently...

I have no idea what the point of posting this is, but...

Seriously folks, the guy killed two members of his family accidentally. If it were my wife, my mother in law, I'd never be a normal person again - how do you come back from that?

That's it, you can go back to thrashing him now.

I did this once, only I went backwards and totalled the neighbor's fence. Of course, I hadn't finished driver's ed yet.
