Persepolis: motobvious: I've thought this exact same thing since it was discovered that Iran was in development. Thus

I mean seriously. If you're trying to build a nuclear weapon on the DL, why would you go out on a world stage and say/do the things iran has been?

Shoot, if you're so close to building and using a nuke, you'd play buddy buddy as much as you can.

No, they WANT Israel to strike. They KNOW this (fear, victimization) has been a staple of Israel life for thousands of years. And it's horrible that it's working so effectively.

Furthering that horror is that I really don't know how many people have a handle on the logistics of Israel's current allies. I can't stress enough that if the U.S. does not support Israel militarily/politically, NO ONE WILL. If Obama says, "we don't support the actions taken by Israel and we're not getting involved" (and nothing about his past or character, nor any arguments I've encountered have persuaded me to think his reaction would be otherwise), do you really think England is going to send troops/money/weapons to Israel? Canada? France? Hell no.

Did somebody say, "theocracy?"
Go have a look at Rumsfeld's Iraq invasion briefing slides, mentally replace those Bible passages in English with Koran passages in Arabic, and then keep trying to convince yourself 'We" are any better than "Them."

And the US Air Force- you know, the ones who would actually be dropping those nukes- are the most Rapture-ready, Armor-of-God wearing, wannabe Crusaders of them all.

No one can be trusted with nuclear weapons- vicious, sadistic, selfish, shortsighted, territorial apes that we humans are, and the only sane thing to do is get rid of them all- but in a world where batshiat insane warmongering nations like the US and Israel already have them, wanting one's own nukes as a deterrent to invasion is not unreasonable.

4. Increased world debate on, "why are we supporting Israel anyway"

But this simply didn't happen when Israel bombed Syria's (alleged) reactor.

There was (essentially) no response from the international community.

Yep. And like I said, the balance shifted in Nov. '08.

You overestimate the power of Obama.

Lulz.

Persepolis: kramers_hair: Saudi Arabia would be happy if Iran was bombed, Iraq would be split.

I agree with this. But they'll still all play the "poor Iran, boo israel" card.

Arab hatred for Iran is a constant. But you can still play for sympathy.

And c'mon...Saudi Arabia sees Iran as a threat to its influence in the area...but they don't hate them like they hate the Jews. There's no hate like Jew hate.

tedbundee: Reverend Otis: Wow! This is completely unprecedented! Surely the Iranians will get the message now.

Israel prepares to attack Iran - April '09 (new window)

Israel prepares to attack Iran - September '08 (new window)

Israel prepares to attack Iran - January '07 (new window)

I think what we can get out of all of this is that Israel is an instigator and is essentially asking for it.

Let's see what happens if we change the wording a bit...

Israel readies it's defense force to neutralize nuclear threat
or
Israel prepares for impending missile attack by Iran,
or
Iranian president pushes nuclear missile program; Israeli forces prepare defensive maneuvers.

and so on.

Even the titles of articles display a bias one way or the other. Remember, our own news services are just as likely to serve up disinformation as other sources. The difference is that most of our news will be subtly biased, instead of just outright lies.

Look at his entourage and ignore all the b.s. excuses given for said entourage. The campaign is over, no one is trying to persuade votes, but the fact is that Obama has a lot of anti-Semite connections.

FTA The Israeli government has reserved the right to carry out a first strike on Iran's nuclear facilities if the country continues to defy the international community and spreads instability in the Middle East.

Carrying out preemptive strikes on other sovereign nations which haven't made hostile moves against you is a right? Where was this right when I was always getting in trouble for fighting with my little brother as a kid?

Most recent events will be posted at the top, and will be added in their place as events develop.

* leaders of the G5 met today in Ottawa, in preparation for next week's meeting at the temporary seat of the UN in Melbourne, Australia. Their main points of concern regard the clean-up of nuclear wastes in United Korea, Japan and Russian-Chinese border and how to end the rampant piracy and scavenging of European ruins by Northern African bands of outlaws. The leader of the G5, the honorable Chairman of China declared:"our priority will be to clean those areas least affected by the global conflict, as scientists are working toward finding ways to drop the levels of radiation and make the Middle-East and most of Europe clean enough for living again. I know that my fellow G5 leaders in Australia, the United States of Americas, Finland and New Zealand are fully behind this initiative"

* President Palin today held a conference from the new White House saying that "levels of unrests in the northern states were dwindling down," with only pockets of violence in the states of North Carolina and Alberta. She went on to say that "citizens here in Ottawa and all over the country realized that unlike the discourse held by radical, the United States had not forcibly annexed Canada and Mexico as a power grab of natural resources after the nuclear destruction of the 12 biggest population centers by Venezuelian nuclear weapons, and that it is in fact a move approved by the populations of the territories formerly known as Canada and Mexico. As soon as violence dies down, martial law will be lifted, the resettlement of populations will be stopped and equal rights will be granted to the new citizens."

I'll tell you what would be hot. How about if Jesus comes back as a women, say Dakota Fanning. Muhammed comes back as Sacha Baron Cohen. Just as they are about to fight their eyes lock and they start making out. Then there an awesome sex scene and monkeys come busting through the walls and start flinging poo at the unbelievers.

I hope it remains in the jawjaw stage forever. We don't need another war. The *aggressive* wars in Iraq and Af-Pak are killing us.

Plus China and Russia have some big investments in Iran, so Israel may might ought to think twice. They've gone from begging us to do it to simply threatening it more. I'd say keep eyes wide open for a false flag op.

Hehe, Tatsuma is trying to instill fear in the western world so we would keep fighting their battles for them. If he wants to die so that he can play dressup and take other's land promised to him by G$%^&d, let him do it, but I personally (and my friends overwhelmingly, many of whom are jewish (at least partly) by origin, but all of whom are well-educated, white, liberal, well-earning cosmopolitans) would like to see Iran have a nuke just so that that mockery of a democracy they is not the only kid on the playground with it's uncle's BB-gun anymore, allowed to shoot out other kids' eyes when they tell him to f' off of their party to which he was never invited.

Seriously, that's the general sentiment around left-wingers in Europe, that's how much Israel has lost it's background here. Bear in mind that this is the same left-wing that embraced Israel in the sixties, the one that Israel would have never labelled anti-semitic when they were behind them.

See, Israel has the bomb, Israel threatened the US to use it and now Israel wants to decide who can have what. The sense of entitlement is even stronger than in this thread or as it is generally in the western world, which is saying something.

That corporatist, authoritarian, theocratic, oppressive, racist apartheid (South-Africa was a democracy for some, right?) really needs to eat some humble pie before they feel the urge to compromise with the masses they keep under oppression.

Israel will definitely use the bomb before Iran. Look at their histories. I've been to Israel, this is one of the main reasons for being so much scared of them. I've never seen any other nation being half that racist against any ethnic minority in the world.

Seriously, Israelis are scary psychos (yes, even worse then the russians), I wouldn't generally trust them with a machete.

Given how long they've been posturing about this sort of thing combined with the difficulties involved (distance + target being much more difficult than similar bombings of Iraq & Syria, where the targets were pretty much sitting in the open), I'll believe Israel will bomb Iran's reactor(s) when said bombs have actually fallen.

What's Iran thinking? Didn't they see Isreal blow up Iraq's reactors in the 70's? (or was it 80's) Reactors are huge buildings with big X's on the roofs that say send missle here.

They're probably paying more attention to their own attempts to blow up the Iraqi reactor that didn't put a single bomb near the target.

The resignation was rather mysterious. We all kind of assumed it was because of the protests. While this new speculation is just that and totally unconfirmed, it has been confirmed that Iran is now blocking Wikileaks.
