Gotta lil secret for ya.

If your wife is walking at four miles per hour, she's raging.

Better go apologize.

a 3 yr old doing something for 2 hours and not freaking out or drowning by trying to change his situation? Autistic maybe? Might also explain wandering and family not noticing him gone for a while.

Imagine being out on the river in your boat and a 3-year-old comes floating by in his Power Wheels truck, just burbling away. I'm thinking you've got to just look at each other and blink for a few seconds before you react.

A local news report said the boy made sure the boater who found him also retrieved the toy truck.

Gotta save the truck! He'll grow up to be a typical redneck.
/Been there, did not do that. Nice rugged area.

I say the kid got off easy. My mom would have put me over her knee and grounded me until I was 18 for a stunt like this. And I would have had a GPS put in me if we had them back in the 80s, that's for sure.

I'm an only child too. My mother practically had another set of eyes permanently staring at me except they were like lazer beam fire eyes that would always know where I was and who I was with and if I threw my vegetables behind the fridge when she wasn't looking.

my 3 yo son just scared the crap out of me this afternoon... thought he went upstairs to the bedrooms, he somehow went out the backdoor instead, closed it behind him, managed to crawl around?under? the gas grill that was blocking the stairs, out to the house next door which is UNDER CONSTRUCTION, and i didnt even know he was gone (full disclosure, he's got a twin sister i was occupied with)
... until the neighbor i had not officially met yet showed up with him at the front door about 20 minutes after i last had a visual on him.

what is it with you guys? it's not like i've never talked to him about going out without us (ie dont do it) or that he isnt aware he's going to get the hammer dropped on him if he gets busted... wtf?!

Back in my day we used to ride rivers to school and back home every day, upstream, both ways! You kids are too soft these days, dammit your uncle steve and I... We used to climb up the river, get bitten by poisonous sharks and dodge bullets in the ghetto and we liked it! and may the sweet powers that be have mercy on your back cheeks if you get home late for dinner. You kids got it too easy.

Don't feel bad. I have three kids, two boys. Both of them managed to take my car for a spin before they were 3 years old. The middle one got it out of park and rolled down the driveway and ran into the house. The youngest rolled across the street, while sitting on his knees trying to steer backing up, and ended up in the neighbors yard. He also thought to lock the doors when he saw me running across the street. He was TWO!

His reasoning? "go store get candy Daddy!"

/yes I did watch my kids closely when they were little
//little boys like toys, and they are smart
///glad my kids are now old enough to have a little fear

I'm sorry, but the page you requested is unavailable on your device. Please select a story below.

My device is a computer, albeit a crappy one at work, so I'm not really sure what they want me to be viewing this article on. But the heading above the stories below read "More from Wonderful World," which I found amusing.

When I was about 3, a neighbor came to the door - with my brother (just a toddler) in tow. Apparently he had wandered down the block, heading toward the expressway when the neighbor headed him off.

Well, since he OBVIOUSLY was too small to open the door, I got the beating of my (admittedly short) life for letting him out.

After that was done, I went back to watching TV, not quite understanding what happened, until about 20 min later, when Mom walked back in the room, and saw my brother, who had pulled himself up on the screen door and was letting himself back out!

I still remember the apology from Mom.

girl6 2009-07-15 01:59:09 AM
My dad had to double wrap chicken wire around my brother's playpen--remember the kind with the wooden bars?--and add a chain-link lid that was padlocked from the outside. My parents would carry the pen outside and lock him up under a tree for most of the day in the summer. Strapping him to his walker and tying it to the tree didn't work.

He's a totally mellow computer nerd on his 2nd tour in Iraq now. Come home safe and in one piece, baby bro!

My mom and dad would've whipped my ass if I pulled a stunt like this. Of course they'd laugh about it later. This article has also made me paranoid. I've checked on my 3 year old 4 times in the last 5 minutes.

I had to tie my middle one into his high chair while he ate. I know it sounds cruel, but he wouldnt eat anything if he thought he could get out. Once he realized that he wasnt going anywhere he'd eat.

Little kids can be a challenge once they have some coordination and realize they can do things on their own. It's priceless to watch, but also scary as hell to be responsible for them :)
