Fort Mill, SC? Father posts bail while leaving the son in jail for 48 hours? "It wasn't like we went to the rail and helped him over or anything?"

Sounds about right for the area.

Teen jailed for sprint across diamond
Boy says his father dared him to cross field during Knights game, so dad's arrested, too.

Smells like teen sprint.

The kid and the dad were sent to jail? Yeah, they are equally guilty of grand stupidity but what ever happened to the old days where they would get just ejected from the ballpark and security would tell them "get outta here you damn morans"?

Jail seems excessive for something like this. It's almost like they get paid for filling in prison slots

No kidding. Throw them out, ban them from future games even, but you shouldn't get jail time or a criminal record for a harmless prank that hurt nobody.

I know, right?

At least that would make the baseball game somewhat interesting. They should pay a person to come in and do that at least twice a game.

Juveniles can be held for up to 48 hours, not counting weekends, until they must appear before a judge.

Because they are the least likely to hire a CIVIL attorney and sue the bejesus out of their tormentors.

Wait! I got it. Two words: Exploding Octopi.

Rules: You can throw the octopi at your team when they are losing and at the other team during the 7th though 9th innings.

Best of both worlds.

I like how, at the end of the article, the dad sold the kid out. "It wasn't like we went to the rail and helped him over or anything." Yep, keep it classy there dad. Keep it classy. Leave the kid in the slammer and disavow all knowledge or responsibility. That's some mighty fine parentin' there, Lou!

/i'm with the posters who think it actually provided a bit of entertainment that is otherwise lacking from a typical baseball game.

dentalhilljack 2009-07-14 01:11:18 PM
Charlotte is getting so minor league, so to speak. Rushing the field at a Knights game and not even streaking? Weak. Now if the kid had rushed a Panthers Monday night game and streaked, then he would be badass.

/Was at that game.
//Dude made nearly the full field
///Until he got crushed by the flying bodycheck from a security guard in our end zone.

Hey, if the players get to administer the beatdown, that's entertainment.

/The 2 morans at the White Sox game didn't get enough quality time with the players IMHO
//I know some dumbass bleeding heart judge let them off with a slap on the wrap for that incident, but didn't they get busted for something else later?

This is made even more appropriate by considering that the Charlotte Knights are the AAA affiliate of the White Sox.

That's the problem. There isn't even beat down in these instances. They run out and the players just stand around watching. Let 'em have a free shot at anyone who comes down out of the stands.

Jail? Is running on a baseball field actually a crime these days?

Why Would I Read the Article 2009-07-14 02:32:34 PM
I used to hate idiots that ran on the field during the game, but during a Giants-rockies game in '96 or thereabouts, a really fat dude, at least 300-325, ran onto the field at candlestick, and eluded security for a good five minutes before they finally got him. I've never seen someone that big be that fast and agile. He outsprinted all the guards, and when one got close he would juke the hell outta them.

it was a typically freezing night at candlestick, and since the giants were down like 300-1 at that point, the fans didn't have a lot to cheer about. the standing O the fan got when they finally caught him was as loud as if the giants had just hit a walk-off or something.

i'll never forget watching that fat man run, his gut swaying to and fro in that cold, frigid night. simply awesome.

FTFA: Reached by phone Monday afternoon, the boy's father acknowledged joking with his son about what it would be like to run onto the field. The family was sitting behind home plate, about 10 rows up.

"I said, 'Boy, if you do, you'd be the man,'" Richards said. "It wasn't like we went to the rail and helped him over or anything."

Way to show some parental responsibility, pops. What the hell did you think he'd do, tell you to get bent?

As for the kid sitting in jail for more than an hour for that, something's f*cked up. That just ain't right.

Igor Jakovsky [TotalFark] 2009-07-14 08:17:00 PM
I seriously doubt the kid had any idea he would be sitting in juvie for 2 days when he jumped over that wall. Stupid. Dad's a turd with those comments.

Ral 2009-07-14 08:33:24 PM
TFA states they won't name the kid because he's a minor, and yet they clearly named his dad earlier in the article. WTF.
