"Mrs Maggs flies the Schweizer 269c helicopter 80 miles from her home in Shere, Surrey, to Blythburgh to visit friends and the grave of her uncle, a former priest, who is buried in the village graveyard. "

Apparently it's not loud enough to wake the dead.

Sounds like her neighbor is preventing from the quiet enjoyment of her land, which makes it illegal ... at least here in the US.

Well, I never knew yelling, chainsaws, and vacuums are illegal in the US -- all things as loud as that helicopter.

Other things as 'loud' as this helicopter:

Jack hammer at 1 m
Major road at 10 m
Passenger car at 10 m
TV (set at home level) at 1 m

ihatedumbpeople: She should take up model rockets. And time her launches with his landings.

YEah...well you interfere with a legal flight of a licensed aircraft with your rocketry and ill see you in prison. See you dont own the airways above or around your property.

Note the law has already said it is legal for the flights.

So shut it old lady...you want to control what happens on land next to your house...buy it or shut it.

I side with the old lady. The pilot and the owner of the helipad land are assholes.

Anyone who disagrees with me deserves a nuisance that interrupts their sleep and ruins their domestic tranquility.

Why? There is absolutely no indication that those circumstances exist with this lady, nor that the landings are even that frequent. Hell, a lawn mower is louder than this helicopter.

Less considerate neighbors might get a noise level test stilted in their favor. It happens.

Regardless of the decibel measurement, it's a farking helicopter. It rattles the house. The poor old lady just wants peace and quiet. It's inconsiderate to turn her property into an airstrip. It's too bad she's too nice to retaliate. If I lived over there, I'd find a way to help her out. I hope somebody does.

gotta side on the rights of the homeowner who is letting the pilot use her land here. It's not like he's part of a HOA.

/wish i had a helicopter.

I understand the house of the neighbor on her other side is for sale. I think I'll take a look, see if the yard is big enough for my Harrier.

Har-ri-er: n1. Any of an English breed of dog, used for hunting hares and rabbits. 2. A hawk that preys on insects and small animals. 3. A device used to convert jet fuel into noise.

Move her to the dodgy side of town and see how quickly she wants for the occasional helicopter landing versus the 24 hour daily barrage of profanity, litter, fights, sirens, gun shots and porch parties. AsBo indeed. Cheerios.

One thing I didn't see covered in these posts.
Creating a lot of windblown dust in a residental area is a nuisance. We're not merely talking noise here. Since she's obviously being hit by the helicopter's down wash, the landings and takeoffs are causing more than a slight nuisance. I side with the lady.

if its the dust can't the neighbour put up a high fence to keep it in?

/I really have no idea if that would work.
