SomeoneDumb: I'm no gun hater (have a few), but for the life of me I can't imagine few things more boring than a call-in radio show about firearms.

Is Alaska, really, that boring?

it is only on the Friday show. two whole hours once a week to talk about guns... believe me it is a hell of a lot more interesting and almost an intellectual pursuit compared to the same hosts show every other day of the week.

as in : you learn things on the gun show most the time... during the week it is any other echo chamber... only with an extra big helping of crazy.

the station doesn't screen calls and even lacks caller ID so it's the same nutcases calling in 24 hours a day basically about whatever new chain letter they received about FEMA death squads or secret muslims or keeping freedom free blippity blap blarrrrr.

it's totally entertaining though.

x23 2009-07-12 10:50:15 AM
i know no one is actually even talking about the show that Palin and Nugent were on... but i'm willing to bet the audio is available in the "Loyal Listener Club" on the actual station website.

KFAR 660AM (new window)

i'd look for it myself... but i am not a loyal listener nor do i feel like navigating on their nightmare of a site (tried it before. never again.)

here are some paraphrased quotes from when i listened to it :

Nugent on Palin : "you are too logical. you make too much sense. that's why all the bureaucrats are running scared of you!"

Some Caller : "one thing we need to have nationwide is closed primaries... that way we won't keep getting these centrist candidates running as supposed 'republicans'. i may have voted for McCain but i was really truly voting for you Sarah."

(that one i just remembered since it pisses me off every primary season that i can't have both ballots or a combined ballot. i've been undeclared since i started voting ages ago and closed primaries really bug me. they only encourage excessive bifurcation IMO.)

probably some others i forgot or missed. i was running errands at the time and missed a few calls.

Yes, because the reason people voted for Obama was because, and only because, he was part black. It wasn't because of his policies, or that McCain and (especially) Palin would have been worse, by several orders of magnitude.

Or did you mean the primaries? When his main opponent was possibly the *only* Democratic candidate the Republicans had a chance of beating?

I remember hearing stories about racist people getting so fed up with the Republicans they voted for Obama. Now THAT is a bad sign for the Republicans, losing the racist vote, losing the vote of people who are literally holding their noses to vote for someone whose skin color makes them 'inferior'.

Personally, I think Sarah Palin played a large part in that.

Ted Nugent - who once pulled out a gun on a soundman when he muted the deafening trash coming out of the stage monitors and said "I can hit you from here" - has been playing the same clapped out riffs at the same jet-plane-during-takeoff dB level for the same 45 years.

Now his major selling point is "I AM THE ALPHA BADASS!"

Like a lot of people who are only marginally good at something, he ran out of things to say and just changed his shirt and kept talking.

His values, like his music, don't seem all that important when not played at excruciating volume.

Well, when you consider street interviews with black people who were given McCain's policies and told they were Obama's, and asked what they think of "Obama's" policies that the black people interviewed were praising those policies as if they knew anything about it, yes, it was about race. your Palin argument is silly because you have Biden, the king of idiot-speak as a VP now. When you have black voters saying, and I quote "Obama is gonna pay my mortgage", "You're about to be ruled be a black man, Cracker!", and "Obama's gonna give me mo' money" you really do have to question race, because it sure as shiat is not about policy at that point.

I could care less what color Obama is, I don't like excessive taxes and out of control spending. To question him is to be called a racist, how silly is that?

Epsilon: I think a lot of the conservatives have some sort of misunderstanding that the liberals (of which I am one) want to do away with all guns. That's not the case at all.

Most of us liberals feel that registration should be required, and what's wrong with that? You have to register a car before you can drive it, what's so horrible about having to register a firearm?

Handguns are already registered. If you're referring to registering long rifles, well that's just insane and it will never, ever pass anywhere in America except for California and New York. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't already requiring it in those states. I honestly feel sorry for the New Yorkers that don't live in the city. But yeah, my neighbor is a full-blooded liberal, and he enjoys coming over and shooting around in the backyard. Not all liberals are crazy, just the leftists in certain concentrated areas that for whatever reason, have alot of political sway. Looking at you Berkeley.

Or we could "go full retard" (as the Democrats would put it) and back Palin. She IS still quite popular and would energize the Republican base. And if Obama sends the country down the tubes (as he seems likely to do), then a good size bloc of Democrats will sit 2012 out, just as the Republicans sat out 2008.

Laugh if you must, but that's how Reagan got into office in 1980.

This. For republicans, anyway. The right has no one good in the party who is in a position to win any elections, really. It kinda sucks, and as we can see from this thread, the nice folks on the left are kinda being sore winners about it. I don't really give a shiat about who wins either way, but I would prefer that it is someone I voted for. It really seems that all that anyone does these days is biatch about what the other side is saying about them, and it is quite annoying and juvenile. I truly believe that we need a third party that could, oh, I dunno, actually FIX some of the problems with the country, rather than argue between two parties filibustering each other and rambling on about how bipartisan this is, and how the other people aren't being bipartisan enough, and all that nonsense. Palin has definitely lost her luster, what little she had of it anyway. Luckily though she will split the republican party in the next election between the insane and the greedy. There's really only one issue left talking about with her. Honestly she was only ever really "republican hot". Not many liberals have to go reaching for her and Ann Coulter (she's a man baby!) for politically leaned sex sympbols, not when we have Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johannson on our side. I guess I should have said "Ignore" all the trolly types, not "ban," sorry. This is as good a time as every to biatch:

Things That May Get You Ignored by Crown_of_Shoes:

- insisting on making some cute "hot" statement after your hotlinked images, like this were 1999 and it made a farking difference.
- using the cliche "window seat please," especially after some harmless remark
- Terrible, pointless, everybody-was-thinking-it-but-you-posted-it puns, e.g. somebody gets decapitated and you cleverly state, "that's not way to get a head in life!" /window seat please!
- Blatant, empty trolling
- Condescending to flame wars with trolls, as if this sort of personal entertainment is the only function a message board serves.
- Political naivete, that is, demonizing a democrats or republicans in a manner that serves only the interests of those who profit on divisive social and wedge issues

And the biggest reason:

- Use of a worn-out FARK cliche. I'm done with it. You do it just once and you are ignored. Nobody think you are cool or FARK savvy because you "get" the inside "it's a streetlight" joke. You can post the derp derp derp terrier, for at least a few more months, but if you try the "it's a conspiracy" guy, you're gone.

For reals. I thought this place was relatively sane until she won the governor's seat. I just keep going back to the gubernatorial debates and how she deflected every single question or gave a non-answer. Then there was, "Mrs. Palin you are against abortion." Yeah, I love that little boston. The problem I'm having (in life) is with people who immediately thread-jack or conversation-jack anything and everything with its nearest pop-culture equivalent. People who cannot live life originally, but must couch their existence in the context of television and movies, and go through great lengths to do so.

Here are some that have well worn out their welcome to the point that if you post it, I can be relatively sure you are a douchebag:

- "sharp knees" post w/ picture
- inbred Freepers
- libs! libs! libs! straight-jacket
- IR serious cat
- I'm an attention whore!
- internet argument special olympics
- Saying I get a kick, etc. etc.
- yeeeaaaaaaah! comic
- graphs making fun of graphs, e.g. pacman, pirates to global warming, especially when the original graph was very informative. This just makes you look like a moran who doesn't like thinking much.

desynch: I'm willing to bet most of you stupid liberals would do the same thing, being that most of you have probably never even held a gun.... except for laser tag and duck hunt (but that doesn't count).

=)

And I'd be willing to bet that most of the stupid liberals wouldn't even want to wave a live gun around without taking a gun safety course or something first and learning not to do that...

...which kinda makes them sound not so stupid, don't you think?

>:)

oroku_saki: As much as I hate the idea of gun control, I hate the idea of a theocracy even more. Gun grabber logic doesn't hold a candle to the epic stupid of passing laws just because your imaginary friend told you to.

So people have attempted to pass laws forcing everyone to attend Church on Sundays? Legislated the correct Bible to have in your house as required by law? Evening prayer sessions from that particular bible?

Sorry Charlie but we're no where near a Theocracy and despite your blubbering and wailing, nobody is trying to make us into one.

You have two policies, count them again, two, that many lean on their religion for, however, the argument they put forth in both cases, has very little to do with a particular religion. That too makes it less of a theocracy.

Abortion: Has more to do with a belief in life at conception which does not equate to any particular religion and is certainly not the sole bailiwick of Christianity.

Gay Marriage: Has more to do with tradition and what people see as the natural order of things; this too has very little to do with any particular religion and is also not the sole bailiwick of Christianity.

So please, lay off the whole Theocracy and Fundies are destroying our country Bullshait. Two policy positions that have absolutely nothing to do with larger economic or law enforcement issues is a far damn cry from a Theocracy or even a theocratic movement.

Crown_of_Shoes: I guess I should have said "Ignore" all the trolly types, not "ban," sorry.

/tough guy rant over.

So can you see *any* posts on Fark?
