There are two kinds of people I can't stand:

Those who are intolerant of other cultures, and the Dutch.

The Japanese ranked top of the Best Tourist survey, with the British and the Germans judged the best of the Europeans.

But French tourists received some consolation for their poor performance, finishing third after the Italians and British for dress sense while on holiday.

I bet the Japanese are the worst dress. Case and point, I was in Italy at the beach, and a bunch of male Japanese tourists were on the beach in suits. With that said, all of the Japanese people I have met seem to be very polite.

I've run into some very rude French tourists (and some very nice ones), but the French aren't the most obnoxious in my opinion.

As a child, at the Wet N Wild in Orlando (a waterpark) I saw a French woman in a bikini who had done nothing to... prepare herself for wearing a bikini. Pube city sticking out of that thing. I'm not sure what she was thinking...

I'd actually forgotten about that until right now. Some things are better left forgotten!

I've never found the French to be bad. Worst are the Brits, always drunk and often eager for a fight. At least American white trash stays home in their trailer parks, Brit trash roams the world getting drunk and puking everywhere.

HairBolus: Before

Are you serious? I took the train from London to France in under 2.5 hours. It takes more time to go from LA to Tijuana, and almost as long as Buffalo to Toronto. North America is huge compared to Europe. It's not a fair comparison.

Those hotel owners have obviously never had any Australian guests, the drunken ones in particular. They are the worst; one slapped a girl at the front f
desk for not knowing where Legoland is, and a another guest a week later threatened to slap me for taking too long to make new room keys for him. They act atrociously, sorry to all Australian Farkers, but you suck.

America is something like 25 times the size of France. That means there's a whole lot more to see. And I'd bet that there's a LOT more than 90% of Americans who've traveled outside the U.S. So what's your point, dipshiat?

itsfullofstars 2009-07-11 11:19:16 PM
that 90 percent of French people did their traveling at home.

So when the French do their traveling at home, its because they have such a beautiful geographically diverse country. When Americans or anyone else tend to stay within their country's borders, they are ignorant and unworldly.

Got it.

Not a lot. but a lot of people also live a very long way away from either Canada or Mexico. Nobody in Europe is that far away from another country. Plus our country has all the basics that tourists want: warm beaches, great skiing mountains, lots of parks with every type of climate if you include Alaska and Hawaii, world class cities. A lot of European countries are lacking one or more of these features.

Ha! I went to Orlando/Disney with my kids several years ago and was in line for the monorail behind someone wearing a Canadian flag lapel pin. When I tried to ask where they were from; maybe I know Bob from Toronto, etc. the father admitted they were from Louisiana but thought they'd be treated better if they were wearing a Canadian flag. It was very strange and probably another reason I shouldn't talk to random strangers.

Yeah, but the French live in a country the size of an American state. And they claim to be cultured. Imagine if a New Yorker had never been farther than Maine or Virginia, and claimed to be a well travelled person.

I never really had problems with the locals in any country I have been to. The Irish were my favorite, but being Irish myself, there is that, and the fact that in Ireland, I blend in with the people.

The French locals are not rude, try to speak a few words at least, that helps.

Some other observations:

The Japanese, polite. There, or abroad.

Germans do not jaywalk.

Italians have the best food.

British have good TV.

When the Dutch talk, it almost sounds like they are spitting.

India has so much contrast. many cultures. People who are filthy rich, others who are just filthy.

Arab vendors do not give up easily.

Singapore is very fussy about, well, it's almost like one big HOA.

North Korea is the strangest travel experience I ever had.

The Magic Kingdom at the Disneyland resort is the best theme park.

I've been to Canada, before passports were necessary, it was nice.
But since the U.S.A. is about, say 3 to 4 times bigger than any given European country, I'd say not many travel abroad. It's not like we have any backwards high speed trains going anywhere. We have us some car$$$. And riddle me this, who doesn't think the South, Utah and Florida aren't their own countries?

ZippyChippy 2009-07-11 11:27:48 PM
I live in So Cal, very close to Disneyland, and see a lot of tourists. Being in an unfamiliar place, especially in a different country, where someone is not familiar with local customs, money, or even the language sometimes doesn't bring out the best in people. But most tourists, no matter where they're from, seem basically OK. The place where they're the worst is behind the wheel on the local freeways. It's best to err on the safe side and treat rental cars the same way you treat student drivers.

In France, it's the law: full-time workers in France are guaranteed at least five weeks vacation.

The "90 percent of French people did their traveling at home" quote refers to just one year.

How many people in the US have even been outside of the US in their entire life? not how many per year which is the statistic being compared.

USA is #1!

Listen, bub, either cough up a Canadian flag for my backpack or I'm spending my entire European vacation hanging out with you while wearing my American flag t-shirt and baseball cap and singing the Star Spangled Banner. Can you say "collateral damage"?
