Wait, I get pulled over and ticketed for going 5-over and these guys do over twice the limit and get off home free. (Well not entirely apparently, we will see.)

/Between Rugby and Minot, ND on Highway 2 the HP will pull you over for frigin ANYTHING.
//Boss got pulled over for doing 5-over as well on a different occasion.
///What is so dangerous about doing 80 in a 75 when everyone else is doing 80.
////As near as I can tell, "Driving while Canadian" is a ticketable offense in that part of the state.

I'm sure they felt they could safely handle the road at that speed.

(This is the argument people always seem to bring up in speeding-related threads.)

I got a 90 in a 65. Cop didn't hassle me much over it. He sure gave me a ticket, but I wasn't hassled. Funny thing was I was on my way to a party full of cops. Wrong county though. :(

149? They should get their licenses revoked or speeding is no longer an enforceable law because of precedent. IANAL.

/Glad the cop didn't catch me when I was going 105...

Sir, I clocked you at Ludicrous Speed... do you know what the limit is here?

Uhhh... Outlandish?

No, it's Absurd Speed... maybe you should slow down to read a sign every once in awhile. You're luck I don't write you up for Preposterous....

You see, there are two sets of rules. One for the members of the police establishment, and one for rest of us. You see, if I beat up a skinny young girl while she is wearing handcuffs behind her back, that's bad.

But when a cop does it... Here in this state the cops put a bear sticker on their civilian vehicles. That way they know not to hassle each other (our their wives) for little things like "breaking the law."

I have a buddy that did 70 through a school zone under construction. They doubled his speed for the school zone, then doubled it again for the construction. So 70mph quadrupled. He has at his house a framed ticket for doing 280mph in a 6 cylinder Mustang.

Awesome conversation piece.

LaZBoy82 2009-07-11 05:30:30 AM
I once got a ticket for 109 in a 45. It was late and a stright road. The cop gave me a ticket but that was it. He was a rookie, I could tell because he didnt drag me out of the car with he gun out. That was my last speeding ticket (after about 8 in 3 years from age 16 to 19), I learned my lession and sold my little fast car and 8 years later I have great insurence rates.

/my dads a cop
//later the officer told my dad if he knew who I was he would have let me off
///I never brought up the fact my dad was a cop when I got pulled over cause Im not a douchbag

Cover-up machine activated.

As for the joking and lack of questions about reckless driving and racing, OSP said no two traffic stops are alike and the speeding charge was explained.

Cover-up machine in gear.

An OSP spokesperson said Lee's microphone should have remained on during the entire traffic stop and the issue will be addressed later.

If this were true why does it even HAVE an off button?

One Columbus defense attorney said he thinks the case will be scrutinized heavily.

"I think it's going to have a big ripple effect for criminal defense attorneys," Michael Probst said.

Probst said his clients have been charged with reckless driving for going 20 miles over the speed limit.

He said he's never had a client drive 147 miles per hour, and he said he thinks fellow lawyers will cite the officers' case in contesting reckless driving charges against their clients.

"I absolutely think that local criminal defense attorneys will point to this case, especially considering that they're police officers," Probst

Awesome. Let the fun begin.

I was pulled over in town doing 105 in a 50 (km...canadian). The cop asked me to get out of the car and had me @ the buisiness end of a shotgun while his buddies dropped by and laughed.

While I deserved to be pulled over and fined, I think the gun was a bit much.

Bucky Katt: Driving like that they'll eventually crash into something and Darwin will have his revenge.

Yup, it happens. Just yesterday we had a guy that was almost to work, and he wrecked his motorcycle and died before any emergency personnel even showed up on the scene. He was known to drive similar to these guys, and it got him in the end.

I was cited for 102mph in a 70 after I jammed on my brakes on my CBR1000rr. I was passed by two BMWs and an Acura at that speed a half mile back.

Ironically, that was the first time I was ever treated decently in a traffic stop. Cop was a complete robot. He scribbled everything nearly illegibly on the citation and left. Took about five minutes overall.

Maybe I should keep it over 100 from now on :/ Or better yet, maybe I should just join the local police department.

When my brother was in college, he was riding home for break with his roommate who was an MP in the reserves. Roommate got pulled over for doing something like 90 in one of those infamous little speed trap towns in North Florida where the speed limit was 45, told them he was a cop, and they did nothing but tell him he should drive slower and wave him on his way.

It was one of those towns where almost their entire revenue comes from speeding tickets, and because he was technically a cop, he got off despite doing twice the legal limit.

FTA: Thomas has been on injured leave from the Gahanna police department since last December after he slipped and fell on ice.

Speeding and officer discretion are one thing. This right here sounds more like worker's compensation insurance fraud. He is too injured to work but he can ride a sport bike? Sitting in an unnatural position for extended periods and at 150 mph no less.

Correct and thankfully the workman's comp people caught onto that too and are now investigating it. He's been getting $34 an hour to ride that bike that fast!

Go with Police/Sheriff's reserve. In Ohio (for example) it's no pay and maybe two nights a month duty but, you get "full benefits".

/90 days of night classes for a couple of hundred bucks.
//Paid for by the the second avoided ticket.
/// Even my overweight. sister-in-law can do it. Did I mention she's a hair dresser by profession?

Can you explain "full benefits" to an Ohio-residing, non-local, new American like me? It sounds interesting.

Somewhat ironic, since reckless bikers is usually a pretty big sore spot for cops.
