Ahhh well, at least I don't know any of the people involved.

I can hear it now: "I paid for that GDMF'N thang and I don't give a
MF if your stomach falls off!"

/But at least they're having some quality time with the kids

You would think the parents would at least be happy that she has the skank and tribal arm band tattoos they wanted her to get.

Ashtrey 2009-07-11 07:28:31 AM
See, I figured the headline would be "Girl assaulted by her family because of her belly ring. Fark: It's not 1998."

Terrydatroll 2009-07-11 07:38:09 AM
"The girl also was struck during the altercation, police said."

I would like to know what "struck" means. Was she slapped, spanked, punched in the face? With the exception of the latter I would have to say that if you know of any parents who haven't "struck" (disciplined) their children then I will show you some fracking brats.

Granted, sounds like these two are some real winners, but when we automatically think that throwing parents in jail for family squabbles then maybe we are the ones who are truly farked. Just sayin..

I have never once in any way "struck" any of my 3 kids, and they are really good, non-bratty kids. All it takes is rules, consistently applied, and consequences, consistently applied.

Malachilenomade 2009-07-11 07:48:39 AM
That's just wonderful. She's too young to name, but we can give the parent's names and where they live, as if her name couldn't be found out from that.

Cold_Sassy 2009-07-11 07:50:44 AM
Yeah, don't worry about seeking medical attention for the infection. Just hold her down and shove that pussy piece of metal back in there, it'll heal up just fine.

They should be charged with neglect/abuse too, since she is a minor. Gawd, these people are colossal a-holes.

...and a taser.

/not kidding - inability to rationalize consequences is a prime factor of childhood (see also: why do kids do dumb things?). Thus, you're left with force or the threat thereof.

Some kids don't need it. All you have to do is give them an angry look and they burst into tears convinced you don't love them anymore because they spilled their juice. Other kids will continue to light houses on fire even if everyone on the block has had a turn beating on them with canoe paddle.

Well, so far my kid hasn't figured out there is no magical force compelling him to obey a 'time out', and as long as that is true I can start a three count and get compliance by 'two'...

Unless his mother is around - he knows he doesn't have to listen to her because the only penalty is having her repeat the request.

Despite the above claims, I have given my kid a solid swat on the ass TWICE. Both times because he was running out into the street and I had to grab him to hold him back.

/Might be tempted to smack him for getting a belly ring, though.

Dude... even if they didn't strike her, they held her down and tried to force a ring back in to an infected wound.

Is that not good enough for you?

Unless the kids are total morons or sociopaths, psychological punishment should always be more effective than corporal punishment.

Once they are in their teens and rebellious enough that it doesn't always work, revoking of privileges is a better alternative.

Seriously, are half the kids of farkers so horribly maladjusted that simple things like sending them to their room aren't effective?

I've never struck my child either, and people go out of their way to tell me how polite and well behaved he is. Meanwhile, some of the biggest brats I have ever known were children who are regularly spanked.

Not saying I'm a great parent. I credit his mother (who has also never spanked him). But the idea that spanking is a barometer of good parenting is ridiculous.

/not anti-spanking
//just never had to do it

SharkTrager: the idea that spanking is a barometer of good parenting is ridiculous.

I'll second that. On the other hand, anyone who is categorically against spanking is an idiot.

I'll defend my spanking my kid for trying to run out into traffic any day. That or playing with wall sockets. Two things where I want to be DAMN sure he's not going to try it again when my back is turned... and a spank that hurts (but doesn't bruise or break anything... I'm not talking a beating here!) is something I trust to make a quick association in the kid's head. Touch socket = pain. Run into street = pain.

For things like that I really don't care if he understands, I'm just looking for blind obedience to protect his actual life.

Not that it bears any relevance to the assault thing, but you shouldn't remove an infected piercing - the ring let's the infection drain, while removing it can cause the hole to seal, trapping the infection inside.

Well, to the family's credit you're not supposed to take out a piercing while it's infected.
