This last weekend, the brother of one of my friends from college was in town. The brother has a liberal arts degree, and my friend and I have masters degrees in engineering, as do most of our friends from college, and their spouses.

At dinner, the brother railed on and on about the stupid, hillbilly, retard from Alaska. The brother has been recently laid off from the fashion industry in New York due to his problems with illicit substances. He is on unemployment while he gets his crud sorted out which I applaud him for doing.

With all the people in the room, there was large amount of education and varying views on politics. I have never heard of any of the other people talk about any politician as stupid, hillbilly, elite, etc.

Why? Probably because they are secure in their intellect and positions and when they feel the need to state their positions, they do so with calm assertive facts.

Although I respected my friends house and simply nodded my head, the irony of a recovering addict who is unemployed railing on someone who (regardless your opinion of her) is the governor of a state was not lost on me.

This is what I see in the hatred towards this woman. She makes people upset because the see her as no better than themselves, and they realize the lost potential of their lives. While I personally think that Sarah Palin has as much business in the White House as Barack Obama does (very, very little), I just can't bring myself to hate anyone I don't know.

Her voice, I can hate. Her however, I've never met. Neither have you.
