Is Shirley Franklin giving them tips on local government?
Atlanta did this. The criminals called it a tremendous success.

and while they're busy holding their lawlwessness, maybe you could teach them how to spell

Came here for this.

"I picked it up at the Mount Prospect City Police auction last spring. It's an old Mount Prospect Police Car."

Should we hold our spelling corrections until then, too?

Till monday? They can't possibly survive that long without the lawl!

Geez, they're not closing the police department, they're just closing the lobby so you can't go in and pick up copies of reports and stuff.

My department has three district stations. The city has already closed the lobby of two of them. No big deal.

FTFA: To make ends meet, the police station will be closed to the public, City Hall will be closed on Fridays and city employees, including police officers, will take 30 furlough days.

Seems like two separate things to me.

That's a hell of a trainwreck there.

The town I used to live in only had 1 cop and he just worked during the day m-f. The town I live in now has no police department. yep, it's a little slice of heaven...

I think Cicero had the state police for a while because the entire police department was fired for being corrupt. East St. Louis also had no police because it is East St. Louis.

Chicago Heights (adjacent to Ford Heights) lost most of it's police force in the late 80's/ early 90's through cases like this one... protecting and extorting coke dealers.

You'd be safer staying in the glitzy and cosmopolitan town of Mississauga, for sure.

If I remember correctly, the cops were being paid by the city with IOUs that the local groceries refused to honor, and that banks wouldn't take. I'd go to the dark side too.

Not Chicago Heights (lived in Park Forest). Chicago Heights was actually sort of (relative to surrounding suburbs)thriving then... the police force was a little more thriving. The east side was bad but the rest was nice. They had industry and retail- solid tax base. It all went to shiat at about that time. It was Ford Heights that couldn't pay the force. Chicago Heights was just mobbed up and criminal.

Years ago we were on vacation in Kill Devil Hills, NC and got our 3-man slingshots confiscated during one particularly vicious beach-house to beach-house water balloon war. The officers told us to swing by the police station on our way out of town at the end of the week to retrieve our slingshots.

We stopped by on Saturday and the station was closed. A state trooper happened to be driving by and stopped to ask us what we were all doing milling about the station. We told him and he said that we should call 911 and have the dispatcher send someone over to open the office so we could retrieve our slingshots. After some debate, we did as told and no shiat, they sent a police officer to open the station and return our slingshots. I still have a photo of the sign showing the hours the police station was open.

Spent a fair amount of time in Mt. P. myself. Prospect Heights features large lots, but couldn't get incorporated for a long time back when people had guilt. The problem was it was built on a low-lying buffer zone for Palwaukee airport. Boy, it must flood there!
The Blues Brothers was actually initiated (inspired) by an advert in the local paper for an auction of around a score of disused Mt. P. police cars, which I happened to view. I just had a feeling something creative was going to come out of that ad.
Not much crime in Prospect Heights, probably.

Police "911 how can i help you?"
Farmer "There are people stealing stuff from my barn."
Police "Sorry we dont have any officers available at the moment."
Farmer click
short time later
Police "911 how can i help you?"
Farmer " those people stealing from my barn? take your time i shot'em."
After a dozen police cars and a helicopter arrive, and arrest thieves.
Police "I thought you said you shot them?"
Farmer "I thought you said you had no one available."

Somacandra: /I know its a reach, being Mount Prospect and all

The article is referring to Prospect Heights, not Mount Prospect. They're neighbors, but different suburbs. Prospect Heights barely counts as even a village, and anyone who has been in the building in question would understand why. It's barely larger than a 7-11. Of course, there are smaller (Stone Park, IL, this means you.)

Mount Prospect, meanwhile, is an average-sized suburb as Chicago-area suburbs go (with Naperville, Joliet, and Rockford being on the larger side.)
